Gravel for Flint: MHC Kill the Dragon Episode 10

  • Published on

Episode 10 of Kill the Dragon, Michael Deering's December 2016 Minecraft Hardcore Challenge, opens with Basket still on the plains and still looking for the right village. "I'm trying to find a village, particularly the one that has a cleric and a butcher." It goes out in January, but the name stays. "So this is still the December Minecraft Hardcore Challenge, in case you're wondering why it's being released in January, but I'm going to still call it December." The goal hasn't moved either. "I'm trying to beat the end dragon."

Very hilly plains

Basket sprints on, trying not to jump for no reason. "So we have very hilly plains." The first village is short on help, and Basket explains why: zombies got at the villagers through the corners. "So I lost my clerics and a bunch of my other dudes, which is a shame." The plains run out without a new village. "This is the end of this biome." There is a backup plan, though. "But the other option is I could try to breed villagers, if I really want to go that route."

Emeralds from a butcher

Basket circles back to a village across a pond, likely the same second village from last time. "I think it's the same one. There's probably not a cleric." House by house, the villagers get checked. "Are you empty? Yes. You are not what I want."

This time the trade screens do some good. A leatherworker takes leather for an emerald, and a butcher takes raw beef, one emerald for each 16. The emerald stack climbs to 22. "So I have a bunch of emeralds, that's great. I can come back here for more trades later if I need to. But I need a cleric to give it to." With no cleric, it's plan B. "So we're sort of just heading back to original village, going with plan B, unless we find another village along the way."

The first village at dusk

On the way back Basket takes swings at a chicken and a pig, and the feather count looks healthy. "More than a stack of feathers." The first village shows up as the sky turns red. "So this is our first village." Most of the houses are empty. "Oh, they died." A leatherworker and a librarian are left, and the librarian offers a Lure III book for a book and 44 emeralds, more than Basket has. The enchanting room is right there, but there's a catch. "We do have a lot of levels. And no lapis in this building."

Graveling through the night

Back at the wooden house, food goes into the furnace and the large chest gets sorted. "I don't like that creeper being there." Basket wants "a really good bow," and that means arrows. "How many arrows do I have already? Nine arrows? Let's make a shovel. We can do some graveling." So the night goes to an iron shovel and a cave full of gravel, block after block, for the flint. "It's the most exciting stuff on YouTube."

Morning, and plan B

Near the end of the stack, Basket hears the mobs outside. "Sounds like they're burning. And yeah, looks like day." Back up the ladder, Basket drops the haul off at the chest. "So we've got 40. That's pretty good." Next time the arrows get made, and the village plan changes. "So we're going to try and breed up the villagers."

The episode ends with Basket alive in the wooden house in daylight, with a last look in third person. The end card follows with no gameplay after it.
