Livestream, October 26, 2013: GopherCraft SMP S1

GopherCraft SMP had just opened for Minecraft 1.7, and this livestream is the first video from it. "It's a new SMP server. Brand new," a voice says at the start. The Tab list shows three players online: Max_Writer, BasketMC and lostinthefort. Over an hour and forty minutes Basket lays out a giant tower on a mountain, digs out a spawner underneath it, and carries a saddle across the map to spawn.

Mount BasketMC

The stream opens with Basket walking through the woods, then climbing a ladder up a snowy mountain. At the top stands a sign that reads "Mount BasketMC." A voice lays out the plan: the end portal is somewhere down below, "so I'm going to have a big tower here," and up on the peak "a big circular tower," with "a bridge going over to this tower."

A ring of stone bricks

Night falls and Basket starts placing stone bricks in a huge circle around the summit, with a raised walkway and torches along the top. Someone on voice asks if it will be 50 across. "45, yeah." The answer to how tall: "It's pretty tall." The chat, meanwhile, keeps reporting on lostinthefort, who gets shot by a skeleton and then slain by a zombie. On voice, someone keeps trying to get back to a lost stack of iron. "It's not worth your life, is it?" "Oh, it's worth it." By the half-hour mark the chat has logged four deaths for lostinthefort, with a creeper and two skeletons among them, and each one ends in a respawn.

Stash runs and a music disc

When morning comes, Basket climbs down to an older stash, takes a boat across the water in the rain, and sleeps through the next night once everyone else is in bed too. Back at the chests, a tooltip shows a music disc, C418's "blocks." "I got the music disc blocks," a voice announces.

The spawner under the mountain

Next Basket takes a ladder down into an abandoned mineshaft full of cobwebs and spiders, then clears out a stone room around a spawner on a cobblestone pillar. Most of the next half hour is digging: chests in the walls, channels for water, signs, a shaft. At about the 52-minute mark Max_Writer earns the "DIAMONDS!" achievement in chat. Zombies turn up next to the cage, and a voice gives the status report: "I have my zombie spawner set up. Probably."

The tower from below

Then Basket packs up and sets out for spawn, first on horseback. The forest is too thick for the horse ("My horse is cool but I can't navigate this forest"), so the rest of the trip is on foot. Looking back from the valley, the tower's outline hangs over the mountain: a ring of blocks with two spokes crossing in the middle. "So that's a view for the people watching of what the tower is going to be," a voice says, "and it's probably going to extend all the way down to the ground too."

A delivery at spawn

Max_Writer has been building at spawn: "a little tower here so you can kind of get up and look around," and "someplace people can run inside of if they have to." Max_Writer calls it "one of my Max Writer specials," a plain two-story cobblestone tower with a little fenced-in area in front. Basket arrives with a saddle, plus gold and iron horse armor to choose from, and all three show up in the inventory tooltips. The answer to gold or iron is "I'll take both," and the gear goes into a chest inside the safe house.

Heading home

Basket starts back as the sun goes down and enchants an iron chestplate at a table ringed with bookshelves. The stream ends at dusk with Basket in enchanted armor looking over the inventory, still hoping to find some dogs on the way. "I could have sworn there were dogs right..."
