Spawn Set: GopherCraft TerraFirmaCraft Episode 5

  • Published on

A title card reads "GopherCraft TerraFirmaCraft Season 1, Episode 5, Spawn Set" over Basket's caveman character. The episode opens on what Basket calls "a little bit of a walkabout," with a bunch of bones in the inventory and a white dog trotting alongside.

A walk home with a new friend

On the walk, Basket found another player's place to the south and left a couple of onions there. The inventory is full of odd finds: tooltips show a Small Raw Hide, Graphite and a few kinds of rock. Basket also mined a gold vein over the hill, though "I don't really know what gold is used for." Then it's home past the fruit trees, and the dog follows through the front door.

The house so far

Inside, Basket gives a tour. The walls are up, there is a fire pit for pit kilns, and a chisel and a hammer turned planks into stairs. The second floor has started. A chest holds Lapis Lazuli and hides in three sizes. Basket wants to scrape and tan them for armor, but "probably the first thing before I actually make armor is make a bed so that we can set our spawn."

The farm hasn't done anything yet, but the fruit trees have "lots of lemons" and plenty of plums. A short trip turns up another copper deposit, and a vessel shows four stacks of 16x Poor Native Copper. These are "only worth 15 instead of 25 like the stuff that was below my base," Basket says.

Harvesting in the rain

Basket already has a chest of full banana stacks. Now it's the peach trees, in the rain. Basket right-clicks the fruit down, tosses it into one pile with Q, then gathers it and combines the stacks. The Peach tooltip counts up toward 160.0 oz. The bananas are headed for vessels, because "things actually keep better" in them.

Upstairs there is now a banister, a bedroom taking shape and a balcony looking out over the farm. Then the bed. "I think it's two thatch and one large rawhide," Basket says, and the tooltips show Thatch and Large Raw Hide. The first try doesn't work. Basket makes a Stone Knife, then checks and finds the trick: "you have to stand in front of what will be the end of the bed."

The bed goes in the corner and the screen shows a Leave Bed button. It won't skip the night, since "it's the wrong kind of bed," but "my bed is now set in my room." A calendar screen reads Season: Early Autumn, and a nutrition screen has Basket deciding the diet needs more vegetables and grain.

A roof by torchlight

Night falls and Basket starts the roof with the Copper Chisel. "M switches the mode," Basket explains. In stair mode, clicking the top of a plank block turns it into stairs, as long as a hammer is in the inventory. Another mode shaves blocks into half slabs, after one slip. Later comes a shout of "Don't attack the spider," and Basket calls the dog back in through the door: "You weren't supposed to come out and help." The spider "hit hard," and Basket stops to eat.

Looking for darker wood

In the morning Basket looks from down the hill. The red section is "too red," and pine is too light. The only trees nearby are white cedar, ash and pine, but one chestnut has grown from a sapling Basket picked up while exploring. Chopping it gives a single sapling, which is replanted. The planks show up as Chestnut Plank, a test patch goes on the roof, and Basket likes the color. More chestnut trees have to grow before the roof is done.

Waiting on the trees

A last look at the farm leaves Basket thinking "I'm doing something wrong." Next time might bring cows, pigs, a horse or armor. The episode ends on a third-person shot of the caveman and the dog inside the house before the end card.
