Wither Skull Hunting: Inversion Server Episode 7

  • Published on

The goal this time is skulls. Basket wants a beacon, and a beacon needs a Nether Star, which means killing a wither, which means three wither skeleton skulls first. Episode 7 opens with two players walking down a netherrack tunnel under the title card, and Scoti_Garbidis's nameplate shows up about a minute later inside a Nether fortress. "We're trying to get wither skull heads cuz we want to set up beacons," a voice explains.

Down the torch trail

The two follow a line of torches into the fortress halls. "Just follow these little torches," a voice says. Basket carries a diamond sword named "Exorcist."

The first fight is not a wither skeleton. A regular skeleton in a full set of gold armor comes down the hall with a bow, and when it dies a Golden Chestplate turns up in Basket's inventory. "Got the armor, sweet."

Resetting the fortress

Some hallways come up empty, so the pair tries a trick: walk out through the portal and come back, so the area reloads and the mobs spawn again. The detour lands on a small stone platform over the water, with chests, a crafting table and a furnace, and then it is back into the Nether. Along the way a voice pitches a minecart loop through the spawn area, so they could ride past and swing at whatever shows up.

Three skulls

The second pass goes better. Blazes and wither skeletons come in twos and threes, and the fight turns into calling out targets in the dark. "Sticking together is the way to go," a voice says. By the end of it they have three skulls. "So that's one beacon."

There is also the question of where to fight the withers. The bedrock spot from the last fight worked, but it was hard to see. An iron block room comes up as an idea. A voice prefers fighting out in the open or in a cave, with enough cobblestone on hand to pillar out of any hole.

Splitting the loot

They head back to the platform, now at night in the rain. A sword goes back to its owner, the blaze rods get split down the middle, and a Wither Skeleton Skull sits in Basket's inventory. Then Scoti_Garbidis has to leave.

Alone in the fortress

Three skulls are enough for one wither, and the plan now is to find three more. Hunting solo is slower. Most wither skeletons drop only coal, bones and stone swords. The health bar runs low, Basket catches fire more than once, and some of the armor is missing by the halfway point. A bow comes out for a regular skeleton.

Partway through, the chat shows "TheSportsfreak fell from a high place," somewhere else on the server, and Basket types ":o".

The narration admits the recording stopped for a while, and two skulls dropped during the gap. It also explains a big flat room dug out of the netherrack next to the halls, in the hope that more wither skeletons will spawn in the open space.

One skull short

"We only ended up with five skulls total," the narration says at the end, so one more is still needed for a second wither. That hunt is left for another day. The last shot is a third person view in a stone brick corridor lined with fires, next to a Nether portal and a sign that reads "Basketopia." Then the end card runs to the end of the video.
