Secret Project: RainCloud SMP Episode 1

  • Published on

Episode 1 starts a month for Team B.S. on RainCloud, an invite only, whitelisted server. Basket and Scoti_Garbidis arrive with a "secret project" and give it away in the first minute: a record label. Most of the episode goes to the first piece of the build, a trip for iron, and a gift that turns into two dirt houses. When the episode ends, the project is still a floor of iron in the sky.

A record label, starting with a platform

Scoti_Garbidis introduces the pair and the plan. "It's no longer a secret, right?" The idea is a record label, "a place where everybody can get the sweet beats," for "the low low price of thinking we're awesome." The name isn't settled yet.

The first part is a spawning platform 28 blocks off the ground. It's made of iron blocks, since "those are more resistant to the exploding." The plan also calls for mob sorting, to get creepers and skeletons where they want them. They start with four stacks of iron and leave a two by two opening in the floor.

One block out of range

Then a problem turns up. The spawn pads will be three blocks tall, two layers of trapdoors plus the water that pushes them, so the top lands 31 blocks up. "You have to be within 30 blocks of the spawn pad for the monsters to spawn." It's snowing up there, "because we're really high up." Up top it's "107," and the ground is "76." "We're one out of range." They settle on moving the floor of the building below by a block, maybe with "some stairs in the front," and head off for more iron.

Gifts under the tree

The walk passes a tower neither of them recognizes and goes through what they call the Stargate. Past it stands a big Christmas tree ringed with chests. One is signed Guest B. Inside are dirt, grass blocks, carpet, a door, a bed, a furnace, a crafting table, a beacon, and a book called IKEA House, by Kireinafujin.

"It's story time." The book lists five steps: dig a three by three hole for the "plush carpeting," build the walls with room for a door, add a second layer, put on a roof so no "undesirable things" get in, then add the door, bed, furnace and crafting bench. They decide it's only fair to take the kit and build it, and plan to swap the chest's sign for a thank-you.

The iron farm

At the iron farm, the iron goes into their ender chests, though one of them wonders if taking it all is overdoing it. Then the crafting grid turns the ingots into blocks of iron for the platform.

Two IKEA homes

Back near the base, the two houses go up side by side, three blocks apart. The hole gets its carpet, and the dirt walls rise. Then the supplies run short: the grass blocks were meant for the roof. "Following directions, not our strong suit." One corner gets a grass block anyway, on the theory that "the grass will grow." The door, bed, furnace and torches go in, and a sign over one door reads "Basket's IKEA Home."

"That'll be the end of this episode," and they say goodbye outside the two houses. The spawning platform still has no spawn pads.
