Episode 5 is the second of three RainCloud SMP videos called "Mob Sorter." Last time Basket and Scoti_Garbidis ran water channels under their sky farm and stopped because they needed lava. Now the lava is here, and so is a new idea for the water. They test it, chase down what goes wrong, and by the end the lava is back out and glass is in its place.
One water source, one exit
On the recording, "Basket was having an idea" before the lava run. The layout they had been copying left a spot where a mob could sit and never get pushed. The new plan moves the water and keeps one exit. Spiders should spill over into the lava, and "everything that's not a spider would come over here." It also does away with a trick of side channels that angled the water toward the middle. "You've definitely simplified it, to say the least."
The lava goes into the cobblestone pit. "Don't fall in the lava." Glass and a torch go up around it, and one side opens "otherwise spiders won't come down."
Waiting below
Then the waiting. They stand under the farm looking up at it, waiting for something to fall. Nothing does for a while. Torches on the walkway sit right next to the opening, which might be the problem, and one of them goes off to put down half slabs. "We're still learning. It's okay."
A zombie in the spider side
When mobs do come, a baby zombie ends up where only spiders belong. The zombies mostly "did go where they should go," but some swim along the top of the water. The fix is another sign above the first one, so they drop into the hole.
A check of the collection spot turns up 49 rotten flesh. "Something must have been backed up."
The lava comes out
Night falls and it gets hard to see. "How will we see if there's a spider or not?" They also wonder whether the lava is lighting things up, the worry from last episode. The lava comes out, glass goes in so they can watch for spiders, and "good news, we got a creeper." There is still plenty of room to drop mobs a different way if this fails.
Where it ends
"I feel like we're doing science here." After a trip to bed, it is day again. They end the episode standing with their backs to the farm, so something can "fall down right in front of us." "You gotta have your back to the danger."
After the end cards comes a short tag. "Go, creeper." Then: "I swear it works! It's working." Particles float around them, which they put down to the beacon.
