Villager: RainCloud SMP Episode 10

  • Published on

Episode 10 of RainCloud SMP fills the last empty spot on the mob sorter. The cats and dogs are in, and the plan needs a villager to pull zombies to one side. Basket and Scoti_Garbidis spend the first half making one, from a zombie villager and a weakness potion, then push it up into place. With Evil_Mech_Meru and Kireinafujin around, they switch the sorter on for the first time. By the end the zombies and skeletons go where they should and a creeper finally lands in its pit, though the zombie side still has no kill.

Breeding is complicated now

The video opens at a pen with two villagers. One of them could be taken, but the talk turns to how villagers breed. The rules "really made this complicated," one of them says, reading out the food-sharing details: six bread, or 24 carrots or potatoes. They decide it would be easier to "get a zombie from down below" and cure it. That takes a weakness potion.

Shopping in the warehouse

The ingredients are in a long storage hall of labeled chests, where Evil_Mech_Meru points out what is where. Glass bottles, gold, an apple for a golden apple, sugar and spider eyes all turn up. Brown mushroom is harder; Evil_Mech_Meru isn't sure there are any, until some turn up in the Halloween decorations. Gunpowder is in the chest labeled gunpowder. "It's so well organized." At a brewing stand Basket makes a Potion of Weakness and then splash versions.

Curing the zombie

By night a zombie villager is in a cobblestone pit by the ladder. "This guy right here is gonna be our friendly friend," trapped "forever and ever, amen." The order is splash potion first, then the golden apple. Red particles swirl around its head while they wait. Then: "Whoa, someone's been shot." A skeleton has come in through the doors. They put up temporary glass chambers so the first test mobs have somewhere to drop.

Pushing it up

The cure works, and the new villager has to go up a narrow shaft. The trick is pushing: it will "very slowly go up as you keep on pushing." It reaches the top and won't step forward, so one of them makes "a little bit more space" to push from the other side too, and someone else joins in. A half slab goes in so it can't "squeeze out at all." Partway through comes a realization: "We never put the kill in for the zombies." The opening is closed off with glass.

The first test

They hold off on lava "so that we know the things are where they're supposed to go." In chat, Evil_Mech_Meru says they "need a bottle of champagne to christen it." The early runs show "a classic case of not enough creepers," and a torch too close to the spawning floor comes out. A cat sitting on a half slab vanishes when the slab is broken.

Then it starts to work. "Zombies are good at doing their job," going to the villager every time, and the skeletons take the correct side. A spider climbs where it shouldn't ("some spiders climb") and then just sits there. At last a few creepers come down. "Moment of truth." One of them checks: "It's not dead, it's in the pit."

Where it ends

The plan for later is to gather creepers and skeletons together so the skeletons shoot the creepers, which means "records for days," and to light the caves so more mobs spawn on the farm. Evil_Mech_Meru and Kireinafujin join the lineup on the grass for the sign-off, and Scoti_Garbidis and Basket thank them as "the people responsible for all the things we've done here."
