Season 11 is Olive Branch, and Basket built the command blocks that run it. Everyone starts on no team, holding a dead bush renamed "Olive Branch." Two players without a team who hold their branches near each other get put on a team together, two at most. Until then, players on the no-team side cannot hurt each other. This season also uses the Soul Crusher: each death shrinks the border, and Basket explains that every sunset after the first starts a shrink of its own if one is not already running. The title card reads "Episode 1, Debugging the Code."
Sixteen players, no teams
The match starts in a glass room, and chat fills with Taking Inventory achievements. Basket keeps one eye on chat to make sure nobody is stuck in a tree, since one player got stuck in one during setup. Then it's the usual UHC opening. "Oh, I'm next to the wall, look at that." Wood, then stone, then tools.
A known bug is still in the game. Items ghost in the inventory, and Basket guesses it comes from one of the item-swapping command blocks, though it never showed up in beta testing. "I feel a little bit rusty. I'm used to having teammates to talk to."
Looking for a partner
The goal for day one is to find somebody. Teaming up early means the two of you can plan together, but Basket still wants to bring supplies to whoever that turns out to be. So the gathering goes on: sheep under a giant mushroom for mutton, then pigs up in the trees. "Tree pig. Oh, what a pain." An apple finally drops from the leaves.
Nobody turns up. As night comes in, Basket digs into a hillside, covers the entrance and puts down torches.
The branch that would not work
Then chat lights up. optimus1971 writes "olive branch isnt working," and other players offer advice: "did you use the pointy end?" and "Try punching." Scoti_Garbidis asks if they were both holding it in hand. Basket types instructions, then decides to look at the code. "All right, now let me try and debug the code." The game menu sits on screen for a couple of minutes while the fix goes in.
Then chat shows "Team Created" twice, with optimus1971 and pulse2010 as the first pair. Basket posts "fixed :)" and Scoti_Garbidis answers "THANK YOU." Basket's explanation: a hopper clock passed the item back and forth so fast that the redstone never noticed it moving. The doubled message is "slightly concerning," so Basket plans to watch for it when the next team forms.
Charcoal and congratulations
Back underground, Basket cooks mutton and makes charcoal. Basket tries putting buttons in the furnace and finds out they won't burn. "Lame." In chat, MomofMiners is "holding out for a hero til the morning light." Virii333 earns the Benchmarking achievement for a first crafting table, late in the first day, and Basket types "congrats viri."
Down the stairs
Iron turns into an iron pickaxe first, because faster digging matters more than armor right now. Basket also cooks smooth stone, which was handy in the beta, and cuts a staircase down with torches along the way. The plan has one flaw. "If I don't go back up the same way, then I lose all that stuff."
The server posts "End of Day 1. Players remaining:" and lists all sixteen, BasketMC included. Basket is alive, still without a teammate, and digging down when the episode ends.
