Chased to the Crane: GopherCraft UHC S5 Episode 2

  • Published on

Episode 2 opens on the same "GopherCraft UHC Season 5" title and team cards, then picks up in the sealed building as morning comes, with thunder and rain outside. Before anyone moves, chat prints the season's first death: "Steel_Douglas was slain by Zombie." "See, that's why we don't go out at night," someone says.

Splitting the loot

The team sorts the chests before leaving. They agree to spread the valuables around rather than trust one person with everything. Bows are not a problem: "I have almost a stack as well, and two bows." Someone takes the hoppers to build auto-smelters later, and there are potatoes to cook. Then a look outside settles it. The border is just down the street and "moving up quick," so they head for the church graveyard.

Digging up the graveyard

Under almost every headstone, two blocks down, there is a chest or an empty hole. The team digs along the row while someone keeps watch. There is still no chestplate to be found, and when the border jumps closer again, they leave.

On the way, a mystery from the first night gets solved. Items with a strange durability bar sit at numbers like negative 140, which means they are probably good for about one use.

Names in the rain

The semi trailers on a lot hold chests, and one finally gives up an iron chestplate. Then: "We got names, guys, we got names." PsychoSFK is at an iron fence, and rePeteD, at 8 Health, is right there too. Someone lands a hit over the fence, but the hits coming back are heavy. "Might have an enchant." The team runs. The rivals have trouble getting over the fence, and the team splits up to lose them. "Okay, so we lost pikerize."

Gold for an apple

They meet back up at the water tower. Someone has seven gold, enough to "do an apple and heal up," and ingots get tossed to whoever is crafting. A crafting table goes down in an empty lot, and pikerize is back with the group at full health.

The sun goes down fast. A tip comes up about the construction cranes: the counterweight at the top is hollow, room for a very small base. The first crane's ladder has a break in it. The second one works.

A night on the crane

They climb past a zombie and up to the top, and seal it off. Basket's pick breaks on the way in. A little more gold turns up, and Basket crafts a golden apple and eats it, with Absorption and Regeneration II showing on screen. Someone wonders what happens when two helmets with negative durability are combined. "Let's find out. Science."

The rest of the night goes to buckets, a dropped idea for an anvil (plenty of books, nothing to enchant them with), and talk about the fence fight. The rivals were on the far side with only a small gap, which is what let the team get away. The Tab list shows Steel_Douglas grayed out and everyone else still in.

As the moon sets, a "40 Minutes" message lists seventeen players. The team climbs down at first light, heading for the middle of the map to start a base. Basket is alive at the end, on the way down the crane.
