Relocation: GopherCraft UHC S9 Episode 4

  • Published on

Episode 4 opens with the season's intro and a card that reads "Episode 4, Relocation." The chat behind it shows the server's "End of Day 3" line, and all 15 players are still in. The Librarians have spent three days in and around the stronghold. This episode they leave it.

Packing up

The team empties the base first. The furnaces come along, and so does the smooth stone that has finished cooking. The sugar cane comes too, even though nobody plans to use it, "just so they don't get it." The diamond horse armor stays behind, since nobody is riding horses, and the pork chops stay too. Someone grabs the gunpowder in case the team wants to set a trap later. Then: "Charge!"

Heading west

Up top: "There's a skeleton off to our left." Then, "I killed it. Good teamwork." Basket scoops a bucket of lava "very carefully," since lava can set the ground around it on fire. The route passes a huge mountain, extreme hills ("we have to just remember that there's silverfish"), a dark oak forest, chickens, pumpkins and a lot of sheep.

There is a theory about where the other teams are: a stretch of land that is already on fire "might be a hint" that someone has been through it. This area is not burning. Then the world border shows up close by. "There's the wall right over here." The team turns back toward the middle of the plains, far enough from the wall that a few deaths can go by before it closes in.

A staircase in the grass

A cave near the surface does not work out. One opening gets blocked with smooth stone, and then it turns out to be open somewhere else. So the vote goes to a staircase dug straight down in the middle of the plains, with nothing built on top and dirt to cover the hole. The sun is setting as they go under. They break into a cave, set up a room, and keep digging.

Gold, then diamonds

The cave opens into a ravine. "Oh, gold! Goooooold!" Then: "Diamond!" "Oh, we're staring at the same diamond." There is lapis too, and the diamonds get counted out loud, one to seven. "This is great. We're doing fantastic." The team agrees to make a diamond pickaxe so it can mine obsidian for an enchanting table. The team also talks about poking into the Nether to look for a fortress, without staying long.

Three players out

While the team mines, the first death of the season appears in chat: "cupp2000 burned to death." The server answers with "Soul Crusher will wake in 2 minutes!" A couple of minutes later chat reads "pulse2010 was slain by optimus1971," then "Scoti_Garbidis was slain by optimus1971." All three have pink names, the team listed on the season roster as Team Cave Control. The Tab list shows Th3pooka at two hearts, optimus1971 at half a heart and PsychoSFK with extra golden hearts. Then the server posts "Soul Crusher is coming! (The World Border is shrinking)." The guess on voice is that it moves something like 100 blocks, depending on how many players are left.

The enchanting table now sits next to the furnaces in the new base. For the Nether, the plan is to mine twice the obsidian a portal needs, so the team has an exit plan on the other side. Scoti_Garbidis writes "no spectator mode" in chat, then signs off: "np im gonna bounce, don't sweat man, play the game."

The server posts "End of Day 4. Players remaining:" and lists 12 names, with BasketMC, TChels and xmods13 still among them. The episode ends with Basket alive in the new base.
