Scoti Is Hearing Things: Captive Minecraft 4 Episode 4

  • Published on

Basket comes back from an away stretch to find the base completely rearranged, and the two of us head down into the caves to chase the next batch of achievements. This is Episode 4 of the Captive Minecraft 4 run, so we are still trapped in the growing border and grabbing every achievement we can to push the walls back.

The base got a makeover

Scoti had been busy. The whole setup had changed while Basket was gone, starting with what Scoti called version 4 of the cow pen. The wall of furnaces and chests that used to run all the way up to the dirt was gone, replaced with a tidier spot lower down and a proper floor.

Scoti also cut a neat hole that carries water straight down to the lowest level we have reached, so now every floor has water we can use to spread out, block bad guys, or fill a bucket later. There are fresh ladders next to the old stairs, and Scoti fought off a witch solo down there, getting all the way down to half a heart. That was one of those moments where a buddy would have helped.

Down into the caves for the next achievement

With the tour done, we checked the achievement list to see what we needed next. Clay, sugar cane, and a fish all came up, so we started digging deeper and poking through tunnels for anything useful.

The skeletons down here were a puzzle. Some were spawning without bows, which had one of us convinced the other was seeing things last time. Turns out it was a mix of player occlusion and the map's command blocks, so nobody was actually crazy. We picked off the harmless ones and kept moving.

Then came the noise. Scoti kept swearing there was a sound down there, something like cows, then something like a constipated Tyrannosaurus about to have a very bad day. Basket kept saying he heard nothing.

Scoti was right. It was a polar bear, tucked into a corner and grumbling away underground. Score one for the guy hearing things, because this time the things were real.

Skeletons, creepers, and a big clay haul

The deeper rooms got busy fast. A tiny compact spawner was pumping out skeletons into two rooms at once, and a creeper crept in right underneath one of us. We boxed in, torched the spawner down, and cleared the wave, with one save happening right when it counted.

The payoff was clay. A lot of clay. We dug out a stack from the walls and the floor and came back up with 36 pieces in one pocket and 24 in the other, which was more than enough to start turning it into something.

Staining clay and reading the plinth

Up top we cooked the clay and worked out the recipe. Clay comes out as a 2 by 2, so our haul turned into 12 blocks, and you dye it after the fact into stained clay. You need eight blocks plus the dye per color, and we had the yellow ready to go.

We also figured out the achievement plinth finally. When you look down at it while holding the right item, it tells you whether what you have counts. Yellow stained clay checked out, and we wrapped up planning the next targets: a fish, some cows up on the trees, and gold arrows, which turned out to be spectral arrows.

That is where we left it. More Release the B.S. next time, and the whole Captive Minecraft 4 run continues from here.
