When Scotis Fly: Captive Minecraft 4 Episode 12

  • Published on

Episode 12 of Release the B.S. is a full mining shift on the Captive Minecraft map. We pop open a chest we somehow missed, wrangle a very uncooperative pig, dig out a cave stuffed with clay and gold, and finish enough monuments to crack open a chest full of end-game goodies.

A frozen portal and a phantom water bucket

Things kick off with a chest we had walked past before. Inside are vines and another one of the explorer's journal entries, this one about a strange portal so cold the water bucket froze solid just from standing near it. That gets a laugh, and then it gets tested. One of us grabs a water bucket to see if it really freezes near the portal. It does not freeze, but it does vanish, which sets off a solid minute of "you broke it" and "I didn't take it out, I'm confused." Nobody solves the mystery. We just decide to go chase an achievement instead.

When Scotis fly (or at least ride a pig)

The episode title earns itself here. One of us decides he is going to ride his pig, which means digging up a carrot on a string and trying to lead the thing somewhere useful. The pig has other plans. It gets stuck in a corner, refuses to be pushed, and the plan slowly falls apart while the rest of us offer unhelpful advice. Eventually the fix is just digging the ground out from under the pig and letting it drop down to the animal pen with the sheep and chickens. Not exactly flying, but close enough for a channel called Release the B.S.

Down into the clay and the gold

With the pig sorted, it is time to dig. The tunnels are loud. There are zombies, skeletons, a creeper that came walking right through the border, and a noise we spend a while arguing about, polar bear or angry villager. Along the way we turn up a music disc, a cave with a huge amount of clay, and eventually a real payday of gold and diamonds. There is a classic blunder too, where one of us realizes he has been chipping away next to diamonds with the wrong pickaxe. The running to-do list keeps growing: mine the diamonds, build an enchanting setup, get a sugar cane farm going, and count up our eyes of ender because we need five before we can go hunting for a stronghold.

Monuments, purple clay, and a jackpot chest

The real goal this episode is the monuments, the shrines that hand out rewards so we stop leaning on the button to expand. Basket does some science and works out the color code: the shrines below need purple and blue clay, while the tougher ones want green, which we probably will not get until the End. We finish a three-way monument, and one of the completed shrines pays out big. The chest is loaded with end rods, chorus fruit, purpur blocks, a lingering potion of regeneration, and a night vision potion.

A blue sheep and a plan for green

The loot also includes a blue sheep, which sends us down a breeding rabbit hole. The idea is to pair the blue with a yellow, work toward a green sheep, and pull green dye straight off the animal instead of hunting for it. We drop our haul off and start wrapping up. A third teammate sits this one out, and we call it there and promise to catch him next episode.
