Basket and Scoti of Team B.S. are deep into the endgame of this Captive Minecraft run, chasing the last pieces they need to reach the End. First, though, there is a rock-paper-scissors showdown to settle.
Back in the mines for the last odds and ends
We open on day 42, still hunting the stuff the border has been stingy about: sugarcane, cactus, and hardened clay. There is a lot of "I found nothing" and "just out of reach" as we pick through the caves for iron and clay, and a creeper nearly ends the run before we drop it. The running theory is that a green wool square we still need takes cactus, and cactus is one of those blocks that has not turned up yet.
Farming the Nether for Eyes of Ender
The real work happens down in the Nether. We run the fortress for blaze rods, grind the wither skeletons, and clear the enderman spawner for ender pearls, flipping torches on and off to control the spawns. Bit by bit the eyes of ender come together. By the end of the trip we have crafted the full set we need, with a spare ender pearl and even an extra eye left over.
Ro Sham Bo for who goes in
With the eyes ready, nobody actually wants to be the one to jump into the End first. So we settle it the only fair way: Ro Sham Bo. The plan is to type the first letter of rock, paper, or scissors into chat and hit enter at the same time, three, two, one. Loser goes in, winner sits it out. One quick round and it is decided.
Into a very modified End
Whoever drew the short straw drops in and finds the End is not the normal Minecraft fight. The portal is already open, blocks cannot be placed, and there is no exit portal anywhere to be found. The dragon circles the whole time, but with no arrows or bow there is no way to break the crystals or actually beat it. Both of us still pick up the "The End?" achievement for locating it, and the world border grows again for the trouble, but the run ends the way you would guess: a jump into the void and back to the drawing board.
Enchanting table plans back home
Back at the snowy base, the plan turns to an enchanting table. That means diamonds, obsidian, and a stack of paper, and we are short on all three. Basket makes the diamond pickaxe up top and sends it down the ladder shaft so we can mine obsidian below. A chest dig even turns up a protection book. Paper stays the sticking point, and so does that green wool that keeps asking for cactus. That is where we leave it, with the enchanting table half-planned and the End still owed a rematch.
