Hot Tub Time Machine: Captive Minecraft 4 Episode 15

  • Published on

Episode 15 of Release the B.S. is a Nether episode, and most of it comes down to one thing: lava that will not stop moving. Along the way a dog shows up, a couple of blaze spawners get dealt with, and the roof of the Nether becomes the goal.

A dog appears

The episode opens mid-dig. Basket had wandered off camera to break some blocks and heard barking, so by the time recording picks back up he is standing over a wolf trying to figure out what to do with it. "I heard a dog and I was digging," he explains, still a little surprised the thing is real.

The plan forms fast. Taming needs bones, nobody has bones down here, and that becomes the excuse to head up and out for supplies.

Building up to the roof

Getting to the surface of the Nether means climbing. The two of us split the job: one runs the main ladder up what is already there, the other pillars alongside. There is a lot of "don't go down, I'm building as we run up" and some near misses on the ladder, but the climb works.

The higher we go, the more the place opens up into blaze territory.

Blazes, ghasts, and torches everywhere

Up top the sound is nonstop blazes, and a ghast is spawning somewhere close enough to be a problem. The fix is torches, and then more torches, boxing the space in so nothing new shows up while we work.

One blaze spawner sits right in the path. After a quick "should I retreat or break it," the call is made to break it, and the spawner comes out.

Then the lava starts. One of us admits to creating the mess ("I'm fixing the lava problem I created") and it only gets worse from there. Lava sits above one block, then another, then drips through a spot nobody expected. Scoti gets the worst of it, and the game announces it for everyone: "Scoti_Garbidis tried to swim in lava." There is a lot of standing very still so it doesn't flow onto anyone, a lot of "is this lava or water," and one memorable warning that the whole setup is a lava facial waiting to happen.

The struggle is the episode. Every time it looks handled, another block turns out to have lava sitting on top of it.

Scouting and calling it

With the lava slowly going down but still very much alive, the pillar-up plan gets careful. Rather than both jumping into the unknown at once, one of us scouts ahead so we know what is up there before committing. It is blazes up there too, no surprise.

The run wraps with a chest that gets broken but not fully grabbed, and a "we will see you next time." The tamed dog even gets a short bonus moment at the end, mostly as a reminder that all of that work was, in fact, for the dogs.

That is Episode 15 of Captive Minecraft 4. The series is Release the B.S., a Captive Minecraft co-op run on the Team B.S. server. More Minecraft is on the way.
