Monuments: Captive Minecraft 4 Episode 19

  • Published on

Episode 19 of Captive Minecraft 4 is a cleanup run. The last monument pillars are ready to finish, there is a fresh Fortune pick to swing, and once the base is squared away we take a first look at what is waiting in the End.

A tour of the Team B.S. base

Before anything else, Scoti wants to show off what we have built inside the box cave. There is a full villager setup up top: a couple of trade rooms split just far enough apart to keep the villagers happy, sugar cane growing for the paper and book trades, and farmers on hand for seeds to breed the chickens and cows.

The showpiece is the zombie farm a few floors down. Zombies spawn inside the wall, drop onto magma, and die without burning up their loot, so you can stand there AFK and let the zombie flesh pile up while you harvest sugar cane between grabs. It took hours of standing around to fill the chests, but it worked. "You're smart," Basket says once the walkthrough wraps.

Finishing the last monument pillars

Basket grew the cactus, so Scoti gets to work turning it into dye for the last three clay pillars. Cactus green plus lapis makes cyan, bone meal plus cactus green makes lime, and the plain cactus green rounds out the set. Basket heads up to watch each pillar land, because completing one in this map spits out a reward.

The drops are a grab bag. The green stained clay gives up dark oak saplings, slime balls, and sticky pistons. The lime one hands over sixteen slime blocks and an arrow of poison. The cyan pays out thirty-two glass and a couple of lingering potions of swiftness. It is a little underwhelming for a set we had been building toward, and we figure we probably should have dug for the cactus dye way earlier instead of saving it for the endgame.

Cashing in the Fortune pick

The enchanting table is fully set up now, and a stack of levels turned into a Fortune pick. Going into the mines we have exactly one diamond to our name, so the whole run rides on this.

It pays off. What starts as a nervous "I hope there are diamonds left after all the chaos" turns into patch after patch: three here, three more over there, then clusters of five, six, and seven. By the time we haul it all back up we have got thirty-four diamonds, more than enough to make the diamond blocks for a full beacon down the line.

The final monument, and a stuck block

Placing the last monument block triggers a bonus for finishing the set. Out comes a looting III "clownfish", a full set of diamond armor, and one block from each of the monuments, including a diamond block. Basket immediately jokes about breaking the armor as soon as he gets it.

Then the map glitches. One of the blocks stays perpetually locked with a black outline while the others turn to stone like they are supposed to. Nobody can figure out why. "You broke it, man," Basket says, and we decide to leave it and hope it fixes itself after we log out and come back.

First look at the End

With the base tidy, we want to scope out the End before committing to it. We gear up light and step through.

The Ender Dragon is circling, there are Endermen scattered around, and a winding staircase climbs up toward the crystal cages. We test the border rules for a while: you can break blocks but not place them inside the End's walls, and it turns out the Endermen out here are not shielded, so a bow drops them cleanly. The dragon is less friendly. It knocks one of us clear across the arena, picks him up, and drops him. Without armor or enough arrows for the "uber kill" achievement yet, this is a recon trip, not the fight. We call it there.

That is the end of the episode, and see you next time in the end, at the end. This is Captive Minecraft 4, Release the B.S.
