Iron Island Mob Farm: Team B.S. Server Episode 21

  • Published on

Last time the mob farm under Iron Island didn't work. This time it does. Basket starts the stream with a tour: the top of the island, where the dirt and grass have been swapped out for iron blocks, the four iron golem farms in the corners, and the dig underneath where the new farms are going. Basket plays alone this time.

The test cell works

The test cell from last episode is "actually working fine," and there's loot at the bottom to prove it. It just sits in the wrong spot for what comes next. Bones and arrows aren't needed. The gunpowder is the point, and Basket plans to give it "to John for the elytra stuff." A skeleton drops in and dies while the camera is on it.

The new plan is four mob farm cells set around a center column, all the same design, with the item elevator running up the middle to the storage area on top.

Picking a color

That column is going to be glass, and Basket has built a few tests: clear glass, red glass, and red with blue in the middle. The question goes to chat. A viewer says the blue inside the red looks like water, which is roughly the idea, items riding up a water pipe. Then it might be "a warp core reactor" instead. Basket looks up pictures, decides they're blue, and settles on light blue. That means more lapis.

Building the collection floor

Hoppers come next. Iron is no problem on Iron Island; wood is the hard part. The hoppers go in a 4x4 near the bottom, angled toward the center spot. Down there the floor is dark rock with spots where mobs can still spawn, and Basket wants them gone. A ring of slabs goes in partway down to guide falling mobs toward the right spot ("sort of reminds me of the rungs in Stargate"), and the cell gets darkened so things spawn in it.

Not everything dies on landing. "Occasionally they'll have feather-falling boots and they won't die," so Basket adds a lip of half slabs to keep survivors from wandering off. "It's not the most efficient thing in the world," but it's a passive farm and it collects.

Scope creep

The second cell needs prismarine, so Basket pulls more from upstairs and tears out the working prototype, which is in the way. Trapdoors get saved first, everything else goes down the drain. While digging, Basket explains how this happened: it all started with wanting books for the library. Books meant sugar cane to trade to villagers, and a bigger sugar cane farm needed slime blocks. "I was demanding slime blocks from John," Basket says, and now there's a slime farm being built for them. A viewer calls it scope creep. "Yep, exactly."

The walls run short, so Basket heads to the ocean monument for more prismarine bricks. The recipe doesn't give much back for the shards, and Basket may need to AFK there later to build the supply back up.

Water in

With the walls and trapdoors done, the water goes in: corners first, 2x2 at a time, then a check that the center stays dry. Basket recommends Depth Strider boots for this part. One mob still survives the fall. "It's a witch." That gives Basket an idea: an iron golem that lives at the bottom and finishes off whatever lands.

By the end two cells use the new design, with spots for two more. Still to come: the light blue glass column down the middle. The video ends on the credits, with no gameplay after them.
