Iron Island Item Sorter: Team B.S. Server Episode 24

  • Published on

Between streams, Basket finished the Iron Island item elevator from top to bottom. Items now ride up the warp core, land in a water stream and drop through a hopper into two chests. That's as far as it goes. The plan for this stream is to send that water past a row of item sorters and a wall of chests. Basket builds alone, and johnfal_92 turns up in the in-game chat later on.

The elevator, top to bottom

At the top, Basket lowered the floor from where it first sat, so two of the light blue rings show above it, with a little glass fence around the opening.

Down at the bottom, the elevator uses "the design that John has" for a paper farm. Everything feeds into a dropper. A comparator in subtraction mode and a repeater make a clock, an observer watches the repeater, and each pulse fires a dropper pointing up. Basket throws in some sandstone to show it off, and up it goes. "Ta-da!" The two iron golem farms and one of the two mob farms are hooked up so far. Basket has also been adding lights to the dark spots under the mob farm.

Making room

The top room is cramped, so Basket digs out the sand and stone around it to see how much space the island really has. The island wasn't built with this in mind. Where the digging gets close to the outside, Basket fills in with blocks of iron, and those run low. The farm makes iron, "but not quite as fast as I need."

One side turns out to have far more room than the other. Basket decides a whole wall can be storage. "It wouldn't be symmetrical but that's not really the end of the world." To check the spacing, Basket builds a single sorter with a comparator, a repeater, a torch and some dust, then packs the redstone away again.

Water and ice

Instead of a second hopper chain, the items will ride a water stream over the sorter hoppers, which Basket expects to be faster. Water only flows so far, though, and there's no ice on the server yet. johnfal_92 brings packed ice. "<johnfal_92> is that enough ice for you?"

The first route steps down and bends around, and Basket doesn't like it. "I'm not really feeling that." So the top of the island will get reshaped too. Basket crafts iron trapdoors to try in place of slabs, then tries to mirror the stream on both sides of the elevator. That leaves a dead spot where items just stop. Some shuffling of water sources follows ("Okay, Plan B"), and finally everything flows one way around the corner. A viewer calls Basket a master of Minecraft. "They call me the water bender."

Chests, and a mystery

Under the stream go hoppers and a row of regular and trapped chests. The plan is several chests for iron, then mob drops and sugar cane, poppies straight to the trash, and a miscellaneous chest at the end. Then items start stopping on the water for no clear reason. "Why are the items stopping there?" Basket swaps in a row of hoppers to catch them and calls the rest a mystery.

By the end it's collecting iron, at least. The outside of the island still has to be sculpted, and the mirrored side waits for another day. The video ends on the credits, with no gameplay after them.
