Iron Farm Styling: Team B.S. Server Episode 29

  • Published on

Iron Island works. Every farm on it feeds the item elevator, and the elevator feeds the sorting room. Now Basket wants it to look good too. "I mean it functions now but I want it to be pretty." First, though, the sorter needs fixing again.

The sorter, again

Some of the sorter chests are "totally screwed." Basket had used bone blocks as the filler items, and the plan is to swap them for cobblestone renamed "NoStack." The anvil only renames one block at a time now, which Basket does not like one bit. "Remember back in the day when they didn't make you do this?" Then the levels run out.

The real problem turns up once Basket digs in. When one filter gets too full, it "bleeds over to all the other ones," and stray items end up in the wrong chests. So the iron chest is "full of random stuff right now." Basket refills the filters with iron, gunpowder, bones and arrows, breaks the redstone behind the ones with nothing to sort yet, and drops everything else back into the system to go through again.

More chests

The sorter has run out of room at the end of its row, because the island runs out above it. Basket decides function wins over keeping the island's shape. The storage wall will continue and wrap around, with lights behind the chests. The new chests along that side won't be sorted. They're spare chests for dropping things in by hand: double chests with a trapped chest between each pair, and maybe a door in the middle.

This end of the room sits next to the ocean, so water pours in while Basket digs. johnfal_92 is on the server and asks in chat, "<johnfal_92> got any extra sand?" Basket has some and leaves it in the bottom iron chest. Making that many chests and hoppers burns through a lot of wood, and johnfal_92 offers to help: "<johnfal_92> i can bring you wood."

White glass and sea lanterns

Down on the farm floor, Basket asks a design question. The iron golem chutes use clear glass, and "that glass is really ugly." Blue is out, because Basket wants blue glass for other parts of the island and doesn't have the lapis for both. Orange is an option for the lava parts, but Basket goes with white.

Then comes the pattern. The chutes are built on a 3x3 grid, so every third block gets a ring of sea lanterns. Basket covers the lava with cobblestone while working so nobody falls in, then builds a test section to see how it looks. It makes "five by five cubes, you know, hooked together." johnfal_92 heads off with "<johnfal_92> have a great day :)" and Basket thanks them for the wood.

Ink sacs for dark prismarine

From the ladder, Basket decides it "needs something added into it." Dark prismarine in some of those spots might do it, since Basket has hardly used it. A viewer points out it is expensive because it takes ink sacs. So Basket goes out in the ocean and hunts squid. It's slow work. "We're so used to farms that we don't, we actually have to try and gather resources." An ink farm would help, but not here, since squid already spawn all over the open water around the island.

Paths, not rails

The last plan is for getting around. Basket had pictured railroads looping through the farm. Now it will be paths instead, shifted over one block so they line up with the new grid. The path will cross right through the farm. Something will keep the water in, "and then you just have to be smart and not go into the lava." Later, ramps could climb up past the other farms.

The dark prismarine and most of the glass work are still to come. Basket plans to go back and forth between Iron Island and Basketopia from here on, so the city gets some attention too. The video ends on the credits, with no gameplay after them.
