Iron Farm Arches: Team B.S. Server Episode 38

  • Published on

Some of the work happened between streams. The four portals at the top of the Iron Island build now have obsidian frames, a matching disk sits above them, and a path leads out from the one you walk through first. The bigger news is down below: the item elevator is hooked up. Drops ride to the top, pick up speed on a water stream, and shoot down through the sorter in the chest ring. Basket added some glass at the spot where they speed up, so they still get caught.

The sorter, sort of

Basket goes down to see what landed where. The first chests are empty, and it takes a moment to remember that nothing has been set to sort into them yet. Further along, cobblestone has gone into its chests. Iron starts filling at its own spot, and an unsorted section catches the rest, iron blocks included, since those aren't sorted yet. Nothing is labeled. "They're sorting but they're not really necessarily easy to find quite yet."

Glass and lost numbers

The arches need a lot of white glass. The furnaces cooking it have stopped, because the rest of them were never hooked up, so there's less than Basket hoped. White stained glass gets crafted with the recipe book, set to show only what Basket can actually make, so it stops cycling through things Basket doesn't have.

The block counts for the arc shape are gone too. Basket has to work them out again against an oval: a run of numbers that starts with a five and some fours and ends in "five ones."

The first new arch

A viewer asks what this all is, so Basket gives a tour at night in the rain. Four iron golem farms sit in the corners, with mob farms between them. Drops go up the item elevator, hit the water stream at the top and get sorted into the chest ring. Today's job is two more arches.

Back up top, Basket counts each step out loud. "Four twos. This is the one I always mess up." The arch meets the bottom where it should. "I actually built it right on the first try." Along the way Basket finds a spot on the old arch where items had been piling up and fixes it. JJBonsig joins the game around now, and in-game chat shows the night skipped and the storm cleared.

The last arch

The other new arch is partly built into the ground, so Basket digs a three-wide opening and runs the same count again. It lines up: "success." Water will run down this one too, but it won't carry items, since they need to enter the sorter at the start.

Water at the top

With the arches in, Basket makes buckets and pours water at the top so it looks like it flows in every direction. Items only actually go one way. Then items start getting stuck inside the glass up there. Basket tries water in the corners, blue glass where water would stand still, and moving the water a block up, and a few of those make the water fall short of the edge. Two more blue glass blocks finally get it reaching all the way. "Doesn't seem like it's getting stuck in the walls anymore."

All four ways

From a ledge below, the arches now go out in every direction. The chests are still underwater, and Basket plans to change how the water works so the bottom isn't flooded. The paths will get two more in each direction and the whole thing will be symmetrical. "So that is the item sorter design." There's no elytra yet to fly around and look at it. The video ends on the credits, with no gameplay after them.
