More Sanding: Team B.S. Server Episode 45

  • Published on

Basket picks up right where the last episode stopped, inside the new ring of blue glass at Iron Island. The plan for today: "clear out some more of this section here and then try to recover some of the sand and then do some sanding. Very exciting stuff."

Junk down the middle

Inventory is already full, and there's no platform close by. Then Basket has an idea. Anything thrown into the water at the middle of the build falls down into the hoppers below and goes into the sorting system. So the spare cobblestone gets tossed in there. Some blocks stay on hand, though: "I want to make sure I have the blocks to be able to rebuild this design."

Sanding from the inside

Usually Basket sands from above and just drops sand from the top. This time the work happens inside the area being filled, underwater. "I'm drowning. Oh, I'm still drowning because this whole thing is in water. Who thought of that idea?" The plan is to build a wall, fill the whole section with sand, then slice away everything but the outer layer so it turns into little cells.

The sand runs out. Basket uses the break to stock up on food, two stacks of cooked fish, and thinks out loud about the beacons: keep them, but maybe move them and add a fourth so they're symmetrical.

Tempted to duplicate

A viewer offers to show how to duplicate elytra. Basket is tempted and wants elytra for everybody, plus lots of shulker boxes, but "it's a vanilla server where we don't like cheat." Making the world border bigger might be the compromise, and that's not a call Basket makes alone. For now: "Probably the answer is I don't want to."

Digging too deep

Back in the water, Basket clears too far and opens up the edge where the water is. "I dug too deep. All right, let's put this back." More sand turns up in a chest up top, which buys a little more time. At one point it's "Oh no, my bed!" A minute later a white bed is back in Basket's inventory.

The first slice

Once a section is solid sand, Basket torches it and starts cutting. The idea is a slice stepping down to the outer glass, with a temporary catwalk across the top to get back and forth. One sand block stays in place so the water doesn't pour all the way in "until we totally decide how it's gonna be set up." A layer stays on the bottom too, so there's somewhere to walk.

Down to bedrock

Next comes a test cut straight down, to see how the edge lines up with the dug-out area below before doing the rest. The shaft hits lava. Basket pours a water bucket on it, turns it into obsidian, and keeps going down to bedrock. The cut should match the circle above it, though the bottom might taper out further.

The obsidian turns out to be useful. The smooth stone up top is meant to be swapped for obsidian, so Basket keeps what's mined. Then the extra items go down into the system, and the stream ends. "Next time we can work some more on sanding." The video ends on the credits with no gameplay after them.
