Iron Farm Outer Glass Layer: Team B.S. Server Episode 44

  • Published on

Basket opens at Iron Island with some off-camera work to show: the paths reach a little further down, and there are more of them. Today's job is further out. A layer of blue glass goes in around the outside, lined up with the glass already there. Then the water between that ring and everything inside gets removed, and the inside edge of the glass gets sliced straight down into the area below. "And then that can go all the way down to bedrock."

Building underwater

All of it happens underwater, so air is the constant problem. Basket works out that swimming sideways to something that can take a torch is faster than swimming up to the surface for a breath. A viewer points out that the project keeps creeping. Basket doesn't quite agree: "once I put in this water ring, then something was gonna have to happen underneath it."

The blue glass runs out partway around. Basket heads up to craft more, with another batch cooking in the furnaces, and offers the job to anyone who wants it: "everything from that wall to that can be sanded slash sponged if you desire."

The hill has to go

An underwater hill sits right where the new ring runs. Basket looks at it, says "I don't like it," and starts taking it down a layer at a time, careful not to break any of the stone bricks the farms need to work. The shovel has Fortune, which turns gravel into flint, so the gravel gets left where it falls. Cobblestone pillars go in so no infinite water springs form.

Inventory fills up fast, and sand gets priority over everything else. It's needed for sanding and for more glass. "All this blue glass, I had to do a lot of trading to the villagers."

Looking for gravel

The plan for the cut-back hill is to sculpt gravel on top so it matches the gravel pillars on the rest of the seabed. That means finding gravel in the chest ring, which still has no labels. Basket swims from chest to chest: "Oh, I found slime balls. If you're ever looking for them, they're right there." Poppies turn up too. The gravel finally shows up in the miscellaneous chests: "gravel and sand don't have their own sorting spots." Labels are on the list, maybe on signs along the paths and platforms.

The gravel runs out before the sculpting is finished. "I'm all out of gravel. That's great. I love it the way it is."

The perimeter is done

Back to the glass, which is low again, so Basket makes one more trip for it. Then the last gap closes. "Ta-da! So that's the perimeter there."

For a viewer just joining, Basket sums the build up: "Functionally it's an iron farm and a mob farm... But the rest of this is just sort of a crazy styling thing."

Plans, then sanding

Basket walks through what comes next. The inside of the new ring gets sanded out, then cleared all the way around, and only then can the depth and the platforms be worked out. A slime farm goes on top of the farms, and it has to fit with the paths that run to the center. Stairs go down the middle, and AFK fishing farms might sit out at a distance where they won't stop the mob farms from spawning.

The sanding starts with sand already on hand, since most of Basket's sand became blue glass. A trip to the desert is next. Basket digs down level with the top of the structure, and somewhere in there says, "I almost died. That was exciting." That is where the episode stops, and the video ends on the credits with no gameplay after them.
