Episode 54 opens in the base on Iron Island with unfinished business from last time: the Nether portal item mover. Basket crafts some pistons, grabs hopper minecarts and a rail, and heads down to the very bottom to test an idea. "I haven't done it before. I watched other people do it."
A cart that won't go in
The plan is to push hopper minecarts into the blocks under the portal, so anything that comes through gets pulled into the hoppers, up the item elevator and into storage. The first try fails because the rail is in the way, so Basket builds the setup a block higher. The cart drops, the piston fires, and the cart pops right back out. It also turns out to be an empty cart. "Oh, did I not put the hopper inside the thing? Okay, I didn't."
After that come the variations: a solid block behind the cart, the piston set one block back, slabs, cobblestone, a new block under the cart. Nothing pushes it in. The portal's obsidian can't be pushed either, and hopper minecarts only pull items through blocks smaller than a full block, like soul sand. Basket wonders whether an update changed how this works. "I was really hoping this would work." At least the rest of the item tunnel hasn't been built yet. The idea goes on the shelf for more research.
Sea lanterns and a farm tour
The style of the base runs on sea lanterns, so Basket makes some. The prismarine comes from a guardian farm another player built, and Basket tries "not to just steal everybody else's" because it's a community farm.
Back in the base there's a quick look at one of the four iron golem farms underground. Villagers live behind doors that have access to the sky, and the golems walk through, end up in the water, and die. Iron and poppies collect at the end.
Glass, lanterns and the tube
At the bottom, Basket swaps the corner line of blocks for sea lanterns and plans to switch to white glass later. The tube down the middle gets a pattern too: glowstone strips, a lamp every third block, and glass for the rest. No Silk Touch needed. The broken blocks just fall into the lava.
Paths down to the floor
Next comes a new stair path out of the side that slopes down to the floor, with plenty of counting out loud. One older path was built before everything else, in a different style, and it's a little thicker than the rest. Basket tries slabs on top to hide the furnaces underneath. "You can sort of see it, but actually that's not too bad."
Witches that won't die
The mob farms have one leftover problem. Witches survive the fall. "It's a minor bug that I'm not going to fix in my design." By the end they are piling up in the pits, and one poisons Basket during a fight. A viewer suggests magma blocks, but witches drink fire resistance potions. Basket's other idea is to put some iron golems in there, as long as that doesn't interfere with the iron golem farms.
Lining it all up
The last stretch is cleanup. Basket checks the lights set into the bedrock: three bedrock, then a light in every fourth spot, and fills in the ones that were missed. The bottom section is only symmetrical one way, because there's one tube on each side, so it won't get stairs in every direction like the rest of the base. The ladder is still there for now but is meant to go away eventually. The next beam would land in an awkward spot on the new path, so one option is to shift the path over by one, hoppers and all, and turn that spot into a doorway. The stream ends there, then the credits, with no gameplay after them.
