Iron Farm Storage Labeling: Team B.S. Server Episode 62

  • Published on

Episode 62 starts back at the iron farm base with a short list: put glass around the last platforms, and if there's time, deal with the storage. Basket is out of glass and low on prismarine, so the first stop is a supply run.

Supplies from the Guardian farm

The Guardian farm another player built on the server has a pile of drops on the floor. Basket grabs them and crafts prismarine bricks, then heads back. On the way, Basket shows off the server's one command block setup. From a bed you can click to skip to day or night and set the weather. "Otherwise, everything else is vanilla, not modded, and it's all survival."

Closing in the corners

Back at the base, a torch that "messes up our symmetry" comes out first. Then the platforms get finished one corner at a time. Each corner copies the real slime farm: magma blocks across the floor and lights along the top, even though this one isn't in a slime chunk and does nothing. Lights go in so no mobs spawn in the empty space, because a mob that spawns there instead of on the farms would cut into the drops.

Light blue stained glass panes run along the outside. Basket explains why the base is enclosed at all: "water does not behave like I would expect it to." A quick test with a bucket shows it, as the water runs off toward the nearest low spot instead of spreading evenly. The glass runs out twice. Basket crafts light blue dye from bone meal and lapis, turns it into stained glass and then panes, and finishes the last corner. "I think this will be the last corner we have to do."

Signs for the storage ring

Next on the task list: "I have to label the chests." The chests sit under water on purpose, and Basket wants to keep it that way. "This water is staying, this is a feature of the base." Signs on the chests themselves would push the water out, so the plan is to put the signs at each access opening instead: three facing each direction, one on top for the middle, about 28 in all.

Before writing anything, Basket checks the sorting machinery behind the chests to see what each filter is set to. Spots with nothing set yet hold buttons as placeholders. "I didn't have anything programmed in yet, is just blanks." Each sign lists the chests in order, and whatever is named last keeps going around the ring for a long way. The first signs read "Diorite Andesite Granite Stone," then "Stone," then "Cobble Iron," with an "Access Hatch" sign marking the opening. The rest fill in as misc, blanks, bones, arrows, gunpowder, slime balls, rotten flesh and poppies. "Blank, blank, blank, blank. That's the word of the day."

The blanks are room to grow. If something piles up in the misc chest, a blank can be set to sort it. Basket names dirt, sand and carrots as candidates.

Draining the old chests

With the labels done, "we can cross that off our list." Up top there's still a stack of chests from before the sorter existed. Basket turns iron blocks into hoppers and runs a temporary chain from those chests down to the bottom, where it feeds into the line that goes back up into the sorting system. The hoppers run short, so more hoppers and chests get crafted, and a second temporary line at the bottom connects it. The chests can't all drain at once, since they're stacked, so only the bottom ones get hooked up for now. "It'll take time for these to empty out, but eventually I'll get there."

Basket calls the base "basically done," apart from deciding what else to sort. The credits follow with no gameplay after them.
