Basket Castle Stairway Building: Team B.S. Server Episode 73

  • Published on

Episode 73 picks up at the new building against the wall by the barracks. It got its windows last time, and secret doors will run through it later. Basket would like a T flip-flop inside the wall, so one button opens the gate and another closes it, "like a two-way light switch sort of thing." That waits. Today is about the rest of this building and the corner around it: a couple of buildings on either side of the road, stables along the wall, and the keep last, "so we have an idea of the space." Basket is the only player seen in the game.

A ramp for horses

The ground here doesn't line up with the floor, so the grass comes out and stone brick goes in. Then Basket works out what the building is for. The tops of the walls are all set up with ramps, but the only way up for a horse is the cramped barracks stairs. This building has a bigger footprint, so its job could be getting larger things up into the wall.

The answer is "a very, very wide, slow spiral staircase," with flat platforms at the turns. The blocks go in plain for now, with no styling. There are no handrails either. A viewer points out that "many of Basket's properties lack handrails," and Basket agrees, then figures some walls between the turns would keep horses away from big drop-offs.

Two wide instead of three

The building is an even number of blocks across, which leaves one stretch of stairs three wide. Basket asks chat whether it should be two wide instead, then decides without waiting: two wide frees up room to come around the corner. The steps drop down sooner and extra blocks come out. A viewer suggests slabs under the stairs instead of full blocks, and those go in too, "kind of stepping up." The gaps between the turns leave room for secret paths, and one small hole stays open "just to remind me that there's an opening there."

A staircase that goes nowhere

From the main floor the stairs keep going down. What's at the bottom isn't decided. Storage, maybe, or a wine cellar, or beer for the hall, since the building next door is the barracks. The lower flight is a test of whether the design repeats, and it mostly does. For now it's "a staircase that goes nowhere," lit with a lot of torches.

Cobblestone, not path blocks

The road was going to be path blocks, but there's no half-slab path block, so steps between levels would look wrong. Cobblestone comes in slabs, so the road will be cobble with some gravel mixed in, plus the odd bit of mossy cobblestone like the paths outside. Basket drops spare blocks inside the building and heads back to base for cobblestone and gravel, and vines for the mossy cobble. The vine wall turns out to be full. "Someone's been busy."

The road and the stables

Back at the castle, the road starts level with the building's door and stays at that height for a while, so the step down isn't too steep. The main road is three wide and heads for the keep. A side road around the edge is two wide. A spot meant for a small building becomes yard space instead, grass for now and maybe a garden later. A viewer suggests a well, and Basket likes it: the royal well will go inside the keep.

The stables could grow, too. One row might sit against the wall with a neighboring building beside it, open to the sky with a slanted roof. To finish, Basket clears out the inventory so the next wall is ready to build. "We now have a kind of a staircase, a slow staircase where you could take horses potentially to get all the way up to the top." The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
