Rotating an Iron Farm: Team B.S. Server Episode 89

  • Published on

Episode 89 picks up halfway through a fix at Iron Island. Of the four iron golem farms there, one "wasn't symmetrical, it was rotated the wrong direction." The villagers have already been moved. Now the doors have to follow. johnfal_92 and dash10138 are on the server too, and their lines show up in the in-game chat.

A quick tour on the way up

To work out where the new door lines go, Basket climbs to the top of the base and shows it off on the way: mob farms where mobs spawn, fall onto platforms and usually die, an iron golem farm in each of the four corners feeding water chutes, and an item line through the Nether that comes out at a water elevator and fills a ring of sorting chests. "It's a pretty ridiculous looking build." Up top, the water chutes give the answer. North and south "are the good ones." The odd cell runs east to west. "That one is the troublemaker."

Doors by the numbers

With F3 open, Basket notes the coordinates where the new holes should drop and digs down to the cell. The ladders move over to the new spot, and fresh rows of doors go in, five at a time. "One, two, three, four, five." The old way up no longer fits, so new steps get cut to reach the next level.

Glass, gravel and air

The slow part is moving the glass. The old shafts get broken out, the holes filled with gravel, and new glass shafts built at the new coordinates, a few blocks at a time, swimming up for air between rows. "This will probably be the hardest part of it, is just breaking this glass." Then it all lines up. "Does this line up? Yes. Good. Everything's symmetrical."

Waiting for a golem

"In theory this farm is good to go." Basket waits in the cell to watch one spawn. In the chat, johnfal_92 writes "flying over the void is scary" and dash10138 answers "Don't lose the elytra!" No golem shows up. A block goes over the drop so any golem that does spawn stays put, and the coordinates are saved to check on it later. On the way back up: "They all fall to their death. It works."

Windows at Keep Basket

Back at Basketopia, the keep gets glass panes in the upper windows. Some rooms already have iron bars, set on the inside on one floor and the outside on another, and Basket weighs which looks better. A trip through the secret space leads to the next building, where the hidden ladder under a future bed gets its floor tidied up. Swapping in slabs breaks some redstone dust, which gets fixed. "Okay, so it's open, it's closed."

A dark oak roof

That building gets a roof in dark oak, with an overhang. Seen from farther off, the overhang sticks out enough that it "seems like overkill," so it moves one block closer to the wall. A ladder goes in as a way up for now, and Basket makes sure the roof can't spawn mobs. "Roof is done."

From outside, the keep's windows don't match: "the windows go from four to two and then up to a bunch." Basket widens one row to four with three on each side, then copies it on the floor below. "I think we've improved that wall." johnfal_92 asks in chat, "shall we fly to Basketopia?" and dash10138 answers "Sure!" as the stream ends. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
