Basket Castle Royal Tower: Team B.S. Server Episode 104

  • Published on

Episode 104 picks up on the Basket Castle battlements, using the same template as before. There's no ground under one stretch yet, so Basket lays down some cobblestone to stand on for now. Basket is the only player in the game; the in-game chat shows only Basket's own sleep and weather lines and the server's save messages.

Finishing the stretch

"I've already built two of these yesterday," so the pattern comes back quickly: blocks, stairs on top, and a gap left for "a water spout thing." Basket checks the light levels. The stair corners get filled in, the stairs are mirrored to face the outside, and torches go on top. Then Basket swaps in the new windows and builds up the fence pillars on the outside of the wall.

A weird corner

The next piece has much less room. Basket mirrors the template, adds a drain, and tries curving the end in. From outside, it doesn't work next to the tower. "It's a very weird looking thing." One option is to stop it sticking out from the wall. The other is to bring the tower out to meet it. Basket goes with the tower.

Pushing the wall out

The royal tower's wall comes out two blocks. Basket slopes the floor with stairs to make the jump, fills the gap in plain stone (the cracked stone can come later), and swaps a silk touch pick in to save the blocks. "So we're expanding this wall out so that it looks nicer with the battlements." The bedroom sits behind this wall and the roof is "kind of screwed up" now, so both will need work. The new floor goes in birch. With the wall flat, the windows can go anywhere, though a secret door passage runs through that spot.

From the trees, "it's not bad," but Basket thinks it "might make more sense for it to go kind of diagonally out," so the wall gets angled. It's only two blocks out and about four over, so it takes some creativity. Afterward, "that looks good for the transition between being a smaller tower to a larger tower. This is the royal estate tower." The windows there are only three wide and off center because a staircase and a secret tunnel run through.

The dime tour

Asked about a throne room, Basket shows the way down. "I have secret tunnels going all over the place." Most secret doors aren't built yet and will be paintings you can walk through. Opening a chest in the royal bedroom hides that room's secret door. A couple of ladders turn out to be broken. The throne room is at the bottom, with a secret door in the back, a stained glass window to come, and no throne yet. Basket is thinking about a secret door in the throne leading to a room underneath.

The front door is Basket's workaround for a tall door, since spruce doors can't be stacked on top of each other. Along the way are the portcullis and the big cranks that raise it, spots for dropping things on attackers, a dining room, bedrooms, the barracks, the gatehouse, and the start of the town with the tavern, the inn and a library. The basement isn't started. When Minecraft 1.13 comes out, the server will update with no reset.

Snow on the skylight

Back at the tower, Basket lines the new floor up with the other side and blocks off a spot where a window will go later. The roof can now be a plain rectangle. Then Basket notices snow has built up on the skylight glass and tests whether it blocks light. It doesn't. "Okay, there we go, science." To end, Basket thinks about making these windows two wide instead of three so they're centered. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
