Basket Castle Northwest Tower: Team B.S. Server Episode 110

  • Published on

Episode 110 opens inside the new tower where the castle wall connects, with birch floors going in. Basket is the only player in the game; the in-game chat shows only Basket's own sleep and weather lines and the server's save messages.

Floors first

The first level will mostly be a hallway. The stairs start in one corner, and the top level comes out too short, so the wall gets pushed out a little to win one more block of height. One spot will be either doors or an archway. A floor lands on a bottom slab and doesn't quite line up with the next one, so a row of stairs goes in to hide that it isn't a full block. Basket calls it "power speed building this tower": put the whole floor in now, then come back later for the cracked bricks and the right blocks.

One staircase going down doesn't seem to work like the others, but a recount shows the spacing is right after all. The stones run out, a fresh supply turns up, and floor after floor follows.

Not too tall

The next floor up will be the top. The tower should exist, but it shouldn't block the view of the keep and its windows. Basket runs low on blocks again and goes shopping for smooth stone, cutting through the barracks on the way. The stair sections may get no windows at all, since a window there would line up oddly with the steps.

One block out

Then the support pillars. Counting one, two, three along the walls, they would land in odd spots, because the walls were placed "arbitrarily." Moving the walls in would mean redoing the stairs, so Basket tries the other way: push the tower out one block in two directions. On one side that makes the threes line up, and the hallway inside gets more room. Some of the old wall stays inside as a double wall for now. "If I'm ever low I can just break open the wall."

A look around

Partway through, Basket stops to show off the build: the keep, the castle around it, and the town that's been on hold for about six months. The plan is a road through here lined with shops whose secret doors lead into the castle. For now there's no clean way in, which is why the castle walls have holes dug in them. Basket calls it "like a ten-year project." Sewers are planned too, but they wait for 1.13, to see whether water will flow through iron bars for grates. "I'm only at four deaths so far in the server."

Pillars on the outside

A look from far away settles it: the plain stone at the bottom of the wall "looks weird" and will be swapped for stone brick. Cobblestone wall supports go up the outside, set one off from the side, and they will decide where the windows go. From the ground, it is "kind of cool," maybe four windows a floor later on. Then the cobblestone wall runs out.

The other side waits, since Basket doesn't know yet how the inside battlements will meet it. The episode ends with a restock from the chests and a try at getting in through one of the windows: "Oh, we actually went through them." The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
