Basket Castle Western Towers: Team B.S. Server Episode 109

  • Published on

Episode 109 goes back to the battlements on the far side of Basket Castle. A quick supply check comes first: enough ender pearls, and plenty of cobblestone packed away in the shulker boxes. Basket is the only player in the game; the in-game chat shows only Basket's own sleep and weather lines and the server's save messages.

Copying the pattern

A few blocks were left marking where a tower's pillars might go. Basket pulls them out to plan the stretch from scratch, then studies the side that's already done to copy it: a support pillar, a bridge over, an opening, and a lower step that sticks out the other way. Finding the drains takes a second look. "So the drain is on the inside of the step." They go three apart, counted out loud each time: "1, 2, 3." Two blocks go on top with stairs on either side, a stair turns into the wall, and a longer stretch gets a walkout spot with a slab, a cobblestone fence and a torch.

Torches and pillars

That side of the wall had no torches at all. "That's an oversight." They go in one above each hole, and the light levels come back as nines, with maybe one eight, and 9, 10, 11, 10 inside. Then the support pillars, three apart. One spot looks wrong until a recount says it isn't: "good job me." The pillars stop where the wall meets a building. Near the corner, two of them belong to a small tower that isn't built yet, so they can change once it is.

The small tower

There's no convenient way in, "but we can make this work." Basket gathers stone bricks and cracked stone bricks and starts on the smaller tower, since it's the easier of the two. The window in the middle gets a rethink when a viewer suggests iron bars on the sides. A search through the shulker boxes turns some up, and they go in. "You can't really shoot through this though."

For some new faces in chat, Basket stops for a quick tour: Keep Basket, the outer castle, the town that's only partly built, Basketopia, and a big harbor planned for someday. Then the tower goes up: walls, a ladder in the corner, a floor, a window on each side, and a top level that stays low so it doesn't tower over the wall next to it.

The top gets the battlement treatment: openings, drains, a squared-off corner with a curved stair, a cobblestone block and slab on each pillar, and fences with torches for light. "We'll see if it looks dumb from down below."

Looking up from the ground

It doesn't. "I think it works pretty well." The windows are a little bigger than the others on the castle, and Basket likes them. A drain sits close to one window, but a viewer isn't bothered by it, so the tower stays as it is. It does get one more floor lower down with a matching window. One pearl lands on the battlements instead of inside, and one spot is just out of reach. "Very sad."

A second look from far away turns up a few things. The ladder shows from below and might move. The birch top stands out against the stone. At night the lighting holds up well. The stairs on top get swapped for fences, and from the ground that wins: "I think that looks better."

The bigger tower

The next pearl lands better than expected. The second tower won't go very high either. Its inside will be birch, because the small one is part of the wall while this one is "a tower where the wall connects into it." Basket lays the first floor, runs out of blocks partway, and marks a temporary block so the gap can still be crossed. The stairs inside will probably go on the side with more room, and that's where the tower stands at the end. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
