Basket Castle Battlements: Team B.S. Server Episode 117

  • Published on

Episode 117 starts at the bottom of the northeast tower on Basket Castle, with the last floor still to dig out. After that, the work moves up onto the castle walls, this time on the inside. Basket is the only player in the game; the in-game chat shows only Basket's own sleep and weather lines and the server's autosave messages.

The bottom of the northeast tower

"We've got to clear out that space first." Basket digs down for the next floor and uses the blocks that come out to build in the walls. There isn't enough birch for this level, so the very bottom gets stone instead. One side is where some kind of path might connect in later, through to the next room.

A trip outside at night turns up a zombie. "There's a zombie villager in there I might cure at some point." Eventually Basket wants villagers, and hopes to find a spawner, but curing zombies is the backup plan. The shovel is low on durability too. Birch stairs go in, and Basket calls the lowest level "the basement."

A rail along the inside

Up on the walls, Basket wants to try something on the inner edge: slabs all the way across to make "a little bit of a ridge." A light check finds a problem. It reads 7, then 6, so mobs could spawn. A slab with a block on top doesn't solve it either. Iron bars are out ("Don't think you can put torches on, yeah, on iron bars"), so the answer is cobblestone fences, with a torch on some of them.

The torches go in line with the ones on the other side, and the light reads 9 and 8. From down below it looks right. The wall is meant to stay fairly plain, "just to keep people from falling off," while people up top can still look over and "shoot people that are being bad in here."

Torches every four

The rail carries on around the walls, with three fences between each torch. A dark spot reads 7, and it turns out a torch was missed when Basket was doing every other one. One corner gets a stair, a block and another stair, and the cobblestone runs short. Basket blames the speed boost from one beacon for some blocks going in wrong; near the front of the castle, the beacon gives haste instead. A thunderstorm rolls in at night, and Basket sleeps through it and clears the weather.

Where the inside battlements stop

Part of the inner side already had full battlements from earlier work, so the question is where to stop. Basket checks what can be seen from the front of the castle and from the far side. The back, which shows from outside, stays as it is. Only one side changes. Its drains come out so water drains outside the castle instead of inside, and the gaps get regular blocks and fences.

There's more room up here now, which suits the plan for buildings inside the walls. Small stands or workshops with short roofs will sit against the wall in a lot of spots. One stretch will connect into a building that doesn't exist yet, so it gets plain fence for now. A couple of corners still read 7, and Basket fixes them with a torch on either side, leaving the corner itself open.

A look around

To finish, Basket climbs the very tall tower and looks out over the back of the castle, where roads and a bridge will run someday. A stained glass window is still to come. Back on the walls, one thing stands out: a staircase sits outside the battlements for no real reason. "We can move the staircase inside," which leaves room for battlements around the whole thing. "So that'll be tomorrow." The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
