Basketopia City Planning: Team B.S. Server Episode 124

  • Published on

The city wall around Basketopia is plotted all the way around to a big tower by the harbor. Episode 124 finishes the harbor end of the plan, paves some of the roads and alleys, and then puts up the first real stretch of wall. Basket is on the server alone.

Towers for the harbor

Looking over the harbor again, Basket decides the plan still works. The land might get cut back to make more room for harbor, and a strip of land that runs down into the water could carry another tower. The towers here come out smaller than the big one, laid out as "five, one, five," and a straight diagonal stretch of wall joins them up. One tower sits partly in the cove and might end up built into the side of the mountain. Where there's enough natural cliff, Basket doesn't think the wall needs to run around the side.

Between the two shore towers, out in the water, a third tower gets a cobblestone outline. Bridges would link all three, and Basket brings back the idea of a defensive chain that can be raised so boats can't get through.

Roads and alleys

With that part plotted, Basket heads down to the tavern basement for road supplies: cobble, mossy cobble and cobble slabs, plus more steak. The roads go in mostly as regular cobble with gravel and mossy cobble mixed in, "random-ish," and slabs where the ground slopes. Basket keeps some of the natural slope of the land where it can. One road by the water might change later, because docks or a boardwalk could go through there.

One alley turns out to go up and over a hill. Basket makes it climb right away and then step down again, and says it can change once the buildings go in. The alleys are made of blocks mobs can spawn on, so they'll need torches.

A supply run

The wall needs a lot of stone. A chest of it that had been left nearby isn't there anymore, so Basket goes back to the storage chests, finds plenty of bone blocks already farmed for building houses, and makes a trip to the iron farm for stone. "Our shopping trip is complete."

The first stretch of wall

For now the outside of the wall is plain stone brick. Cracked bricks and cobblestone pillars can come later. Basket tries ten blocks high, checks it from the road below, and keeps it, since the wall should be taller than the one-story buildings and their roofs. Where the ground drops, each section steps down one block from the one next to it, and climbs again on the far side.

From outside, the idea is that you see the wall, the castle behind it and maybe a few tall buildings, but not the small ones. A viewer points out that the residents won't get to enjoy their ocean view. "That's why they go to the harbor."

A bigger tower

The tower at the end of the new wall was plotted earlier and now looks too small. Basket counts it out again, reworks the shape, and ends up with sides seven blocks long. "Once they build the rest of the tower it'll make more sense." A last look at the wall shows that a tall building could still see over the wall. That's it for the day, and the credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
