Episode 7 is back on the freeplay map, and it opens at night with rows of stone furnaces and a lab already standing. An edited-in card reads "Episode 7" and "World 1: Long Handed Inserter." By the end, power poles run from the lake to the factory, Automation is researched, Electronics is under way, and electric drills are working the copper patch.
Power that will not show up
Basket crafts a few inserters, "the coal ones," then heads to the lake. Two steam engines sit there beside a row of boilers and an offshore pump, each with a warning icon. "Don't you produce power? What am I doing wrong here?" The engine's panel shows a temperature of 26.03 °C, and the commentary reads out "temperature too low." Moving one engine and checking the electric network info changes nothing.
So a line of small electric poles goes from the lake, past the ore field, up to the factory. Once it connects, the answer is simple: "Oh, now it actually says it has power, look at that. So I guess it was just saying it wasn't really connected to stuff."
Automation
The research screen shows Automation costs 10 science packs. "So I have to manually craft them," and ten go into the lab. Basket browses the tech tree while it works. Electric mining drills go down in place of some burner drills on the ore fields. Then: "Oh my goodness. I just got a thing." Automation shows as researched. The next pick is Electronics, which lists the filter inserter: "This is what I've been wanting."
The long arm
"We got a long arm inserter, which runs electricity, and has a long arm." Basket sets one at the end of the belt under the furnaces, where it reaches past one belt to drop onto another. "Now I can actually move stuff over other belts. Amazing!" Inserters start filling a row of wooden chests with the finished items. After dark, the burner inserters at the furnaces are swapped for electric ones so they stop needing coal.
Copper again
Electronics needs 30 science packs, "so let's wait till we have a little bit more." Then the copper turns out to have stopped. Up past the trees and a stretch of sand, the burner drills on the copper patch have red warning icons. "My guess is they're just out of fuel." Electric drills take their place, but they show warnings too until the poles reach them: "Might be too far out or there's somewhere where I didn't connect." One more pole, and "now we have copper coming back in."
Where it ends
Back at the base, more science packs go into the lab, and the Electronics bar at the top of the screen has barely started. About the coal, the commentary says: "I feel like I should probably just be collecting it in a thing down here. So I'll do that at the beginning of next episode." The last shot is the steam engines at the lake at night.
