First Playthrough Finale, Episode 30: Factorio Season 1

  • Published on

Episode 30 is the last of Season 1, a live stream of about an hour and a half with one goal: launch a rocket. The Rocket silo has already been researched, the commentary says. Basket builds the silo, sets robots and requester chests to feed it, and spends much of the stream untangling trains that keep jamming at the roundabouts. The video ends with the rocket launched, the game's Game finished window on screen, and the game back at its main menu.

The silo goes down

"Today I'm probably going to be beating this play through today." The silo is big, so it goes down a little to one side of the factory and gets power. Its window shows what a rocket part needs: 10 low density structures, 10 rocket fuel and 10 rocket control units. There is fuel and structure on hand, but no control units yet.

The Rocket silo window open beside the silo, its Rocket bar at 0%, with a Rocket part tooltip listing 10 x Low density structure, 10 x Rocket fuel and 7/10 x Rocket control unit in red

Instead of crafting everything by hand, Basket turns a chest into a provider chest, sets requester chests beside assemblers and copies the assembler's recipe into each chest, so robots bring the ingredients. The silo window soon reads 1%. "This may be a longer process."

Trains stuck at the roundabouts

Green circuits run short, and the reason turns out to be iron: the ore trains are not moving. Two trains sit at a junction near a roundabout, each waiting for the other to leave. "I put these roundabouts too close together and so it causes problems." Basket pulls rail signals from a dead-end track and adds them at the junction, and the trains move again.

A circular rail loop with a structure at its center, straight tracks crossing below it, a row of yellow arrows on the rail and green rail signal markers around the junction, with solar panels and stone walls on either side

About twenty minutes later the iron trains jam again in a second spot, for the same reason, and one more signal clears it. "Make these roundabouts further apart, is what I found." Afterward the commentary calls out "oh I've been run over."

Feeding the silo

The rest of the wait goes into adding capacity. Basket copies assembler settings with shift-clicks, pastes blueprints that the robots build, and adds more assemblers for speed modules, green circuits, copper cable and rocket fuel. The commentary counts "720 logical robots" flying it all around. The progress climbs: "13%," then "60 percent" about an hour in.

In between there is a tour. Blueprints of solar panels and battery buildings get pasted down for night power. A deconstruction planner dragged over a forest sends construction robots to cut it all down, and the wood goes back into storage. The commentary finds 21,000 iron ore sitting in storage, so requester chests at the smelting array start pulling it in. A train stop called Iron 4 pickup is no longer used, so its trains are sent to Iron 5 instead and the stop comes out.

Later the commentary reads that "the satellite should be put into the rocket," so Basket builds one.

Launch

At about 84 minutes the silo window shows a LAUNCH button. "I'm assuming I need to put a satellite here." The satellite goes into the rocket, the button gets pressed, and the rocket rises out of the silo on a column of flame.

The Game finished window comes up: "Victory!" and a time played of 85:34:52, over a list of kills that starts with 79,962 big biters. An achievement banner appears below it: "Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast," for "Finish the game."

Where it ends

The window stays up while the commentary looks over the numbers and lists what never got used: "I didn't do cars I didn't do tanks I didn't do logical wiring." Then Finish is clicked, and the game returns to the Factorio main menu. The stream closes there, with a last line about what comes next: "I'll be playing this some more on a new playthrough."
