This Season 2 video on GopherCraft's multiplayer server goes where the commentary has never landed: Eve. The commentary says a viewer vote picked it. The Success design that tipped over on the Mun gets a wider base and extra engines for the trip home, and Magvy Kerman and Halney Kerman climb aboard. The first launch comes apart over the pad and sets the Space Center on fire. The second one holds together, crosses to Eve over more than a year of game time and reaches orbit there. Then it dips into Eve's air to slow down, and the trip ends in a Catastrophic Failure.
A wider Success
In the Vehicle Assembly Building, The Success 2012 XLT comes back up. "It ended up landing on the Mun and then falling over, because it was too, just too tall." So the base gets wider: four decouplers, side fuel tanks, a ring of small engines and landing legs that reach out past them, all meant for getting off Eve again. The parachutes are split into groups, because "we want to not use all of our parachutes this first time around." The design is saved as The Success 2013 XLT. "I haven't ever tried to land on Eve, so it might just go horribly bad."
Fire at the Space Center
It goes badly sooner than that. A few seconds after liftoff the stack starts to wobble and pieces fly off. "Spacebar all the things." The capsule ends up hanging under its parachutes while a building below it burns.
"I think some of our buildings are destroyed." The capsule sets down upright among the buildings, with both kerbal portraits still on screen. Back at the Space Center, the Astronaut Complex shows Status: Out of Service.
The fix in the VAB is struts between the stages, and then the same rocket goes back to the pad. "Stay together this time. You can do it."
A long way around the Sun
This time it holds. A viewer suggests working on the orbit earlier in the climb instead of heading straight up, and the rocket settles into orbit around Kerbin. With Eve set as the target, the plan is to break out into an orbit of the Sun first and fix the angle afterward. The maneuver nodes take a lot of nudging ("It's like when you're at the eye doctor. Better or worse?") before an Eve encounter shows up, and that burn is a long one.
Time warp runs for days at a stretch. On the way the commentary spots something in map view: "Oh, Basketopia Minefield. Why do I have a minefield way out here?" When the main tanks run low, the big outer engines meant for leaving Eve are used up and dropped, landing legs and all. "Hopefully we at least land on Eve, even if we don't ever leave."
Orbit at Eve
Near Eve the four remaining engines light again for the burn into orbit.
"We have an orbit." The lab on board finishes a Lab Analysis on a Temperature Scan high over Eve. With no landing legs left, the plan becomes aerobraking: drop the low point of the orbit into the atmosphere and let the air slow the craft down. The commentary does not know where Eve's atmosphere starts and aims low, "like 12 maybe. Maybe that's a good idea, maybe it's not a good idea."
Bust
The craft drops toward the purple planet. When time warp switches off at the edge of the air, the engine comes off and the craft turns to point retrograde. Advice to do just that is read out at about the same moment. The screen fills with fire and smoke.
The Flight Results window reads "Outcome: Catastrophic Failure!" and the log lists part after part exploding due to overheating, the Mk1-2 Command Pod among them, then "Magvy Kerman was killed" and "Halney Kerman was killed." The mission clock had reached 1 year and 57 days. "Well, there we go, so there was a bust. Oh well, I tried."
Where it ends
The video ends at the Space Center at night with science still at 304.8, then the end cards. The Success 2013 XLT and both of its kerbals are gone, and nobody has landed on Eve yet.
