This Season 2 stream on GopherCraft's multiplayer server starts with a loose end. The ship from the stream before is out of fuel and still circling the Sun on the map, its mission clock past 98 years, with no Duna encounter: "over 100 years it did not happen." So Basket goes back to the VAB, swaps the solid boosters for liquid ones and names the result The Success 2000 XLT. It reaches Kerbin orbit with fuel left over, then flies on to orbit Minmus with Hilchel Kerman aboard. The video ends partway through the trip home.
Liquid instead of solid
The plan is simple: "I'm going to attempt to adjust the solid rockets that I have on there," and replace them with liquid tanks. "I think I can have more control if I make them liquid." Big wings go on for a while, then come off again. The goal is still the old one: "I want to look like a Dart." The finished rocket is a tall stack with a ring of short tanks around its base, and the VAB title bar reads The Success 2000 XLT. Basket opens the ship description box too before saving it.
The launch is at night, with Hilchel Kerman's portrait in the corner. The climb is slower than on the solid boosters, but it holds together when Basket starts to lean it over. "This looks like it's much more effective than the solid rocket boosters." The side tanks drop away, and a planned burn, started early this time, gives a clean result: "amazing we have an orbit we still have all this fuel."
Chasing Minmus
With fuel to spare, Basket sets Minmus as the target. Its orbit is tilted, and most of the next twenty minutes go into maneuver nodes: pulling the handles, learning which one changes the tilt, and lining the two orbits up by eye. "Science is hard." A viewer suggests doing the axis change as its own maneuver first, then working on the encounter. Along the way the map keeps offering Mun encounters instead.
Eventually the map shows a Minmus Encounter. Basket starts the burn early and watches it in map view. "We still have fuel guys, we're amazing. The XLT, it's first voyage." At the encounter a 30-second burn puts the ship into orbit, and the map reads Minmus Apoapsis 1,149,659m. "The XLT is a winner."
Science high over Minmus
Now the experiments run: a crew report, the Mystery Goo, the thermometers and the Materials Study, which the game values at +62.5 Science to recover or +21.9 to transmit. Basket transmits some results and keeps others, in case the ship makes it home with them.
Then Hilchel Kerman goes outside. The commentary takes it slowly ("I'm going to climb down the ladder real slowly"), and Hilchel collects the data from the experiments on the hull and climbs back in through the hatch, with an EVA report on top.
The long way home
"Our goal is to get everybody back, and by everybody I mean the one person." A 10-second burn takes the ship out of Minmus orbit, and the map shows a wide path around Kerbin whose closest point is still far out in space. Rather than spend fuel, Basket tries a cheaper idea: a one-second burn that should line up another pass by Minmus and bring the ship closer to Kerbin.
It is hard to time. Basket warps right up to the node, presses the key, and something is off. "Why is the burn time going up? Should I kill this? I feel like this is bad."
Where it ends
The video stops there, with the engine still lit and the mission clock at 13 days. Hilchel Kerman is aboard, the ship is on its wide path around Kerbin with science stored, and it is not home yet. The end cards follow.
