Nether Tunnel: Hypermine Modded Episode 2

  • Published on

Episode 2 of Hypermine Modded is, in Basket's words, "a little jumpy." The turtle quarry script gets smarter, a turtle helps lay a tunnel across the Nether toward spawn, and at the starter base Basket crafts two jetpacks and a pair of ender chests. When it ends, the ender chests are passing items through hoppers, and a move to a new base is coming.

A smarter quarry

The turtles have a built-in excavate command, but Basket wants a home-made one, "because it's more fun that way." This version digs a row, comes back, drops off what it mined, and starts the next. It also places torches in a grid. After the first block it mines downward, so the torches stay put and the turtle picks each one back up as it passes; an earlier version knocked them off. The test run, 10 forward and 8 to the right, is shown sped up. The torches end up "a little excessive," so Basket plans to spread them out.

A new spot, and the way home

The next clip is at a new spot Basket has scouted for "my main base." Now the turtles clear an entire layer before coming back, unless their inventory fills. Basket wants the torches closer together, though, since a zombie could still spawn. The map shows the trip: south from spawn, past somebody's base, then west to a range of hills.

A bridge over the lava

In the Nether, the goal is the spawn portal. A turtle runs the built-in tunnel program, "tunnel 64," which digs a 3x3 tunnel and places whatever block sits in its first slot. Here that is cobblestone, so the turtle lays a bridge floor across the lava while Basket follows and builds the walls and ceiling. The blocks run out before the top is done, and this Nether has "gigantic spiders" and "some sort of fire dog." Back at the starter base, the tunnel "worked out pretty well," although the coordinates were wrong at first and the plan had to change.

Two jetpacks

Getting back up to spawn means a long field and a big cliff, so Basket wants to fly. A jetpack needs a BatBox, so three BatBoxes, which means nine rechargeable batteries. Working from notes, Basket makes tin casings, tin and copper cable, hammers out iron plates, and builds circuits with lapis, glowstone and redstone. The result is two jetpacks and a BatBox, hooked up under the generator to charge them. "Actually it's filling up really quickly."

Blazes and ender chests

Ender chests would move items between bases, but they need blaze rods. After some wandering, Basket finds another Nether fortress not far from the portal, and a blaze spawner with a simple pit underneath for the blazes to fall into.

Back at base, two ender chests get the same code, green, green, green, "to match my outfit." Items placed in one show up in the other, and a hopper can push items in and pull them out. With two hoppers pulling from it, a full stack mostly goes one way. "This one just happened to be the winner."

Where it ends

Next episode, Basket plans a different storage system, and expects to have moved a lot to the new base by then. The video ends at the ender chests.
