Fresh Fish Market, Part 2: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 4

  • Published on

The fish market by the harbor has its counter and its awning. This episode is about everything behind them: a room for the villagers, a back room for Basket, and the job of getting an actual fisherman in there. In the chat, TOLoneWolf leaves the game and TOLoneWolf2 joins.

A sign and a hidden light

Basket starts in the villagers' space behind the counter, adding a button on the inside wall but hoping nobody uses it to "let the guys out." A sign goes up out front reading "[build] Basket's Fresh Fish Market," so the build shows up on the server's Overviewer map.

The room needs light without the light being obvious. Basket checks light levels on the debug screen and tucks a torch where it's only "sort of visible," with a note to maybe swap it for glowstone later. One worry stays: "I really feel like the guys are gonna die from baby zombies, but that's okay."

An AFK fisher out back

Basket's own back room runs a little under the path above, which another player had said was fine. Digging it out opens onto a cave, "a secret escape, maybe." When night comes, Basket uses the server's day button and the chat answers "Made it day."

Then Basket goes to study the AFK fishing setup nearby. It's simple: an iron pressure plate, water above it, tripwire hooks and a redstone repeater, and it needs three blocks of height. Back home Basket builds one, crafting a trapdoor for the first time ("How do you make a trapdoor? Oh look at that. I figured it out."), then wiring a tripwire hook and a redstone torch to it and filling in the water. When the room is done it has the fisher, chests, a furnace, glowstone for light and a chest standing in for a future ender chest. By the end of the episode a hopper sits under the fisher to collect the catch.

A fisherman goes for a row

Two villagers wait in a holding pen. One is a fisherman, which is "kind of convenient." The other is a weaponsmith: "you're not convenient at all." Basket coaxes the fisherman into a boat and rows it across the grass, around the long way to avoid the lily pads. "Rowing on the ground is pretty silly, I have to say." Tight spots mean breaking out walls, and the villager blocks Basket's own block placement more than once.

It goes "easier than I expected, actually." At the market, Basket walls the boat in, breaks it, and uses a bucket of water to push the villager down into the room behind the counter. The fisherman is free to walk around and trade. A name can wait.

Chilled fish

Last comes the stock. Basket splits the fish evenly between chests, then packs in ice "so they stay fresh." Item frames on the chests show what's inside: raw fish, salmon, pufferfish and clownfish. Basket doesn't expect sales: "I don't imagine anybody will probably ever buy any of the fish."

Test run

Basket has no fishing rod along to show the AFK fisher working, so an item thrown up into the tripwire has to do. The trapdoor shuts like it should. The real test is whether a baby zombie gets the fisherman some night.

The episode ends with Basket out front on the deck in full armor. Next time, Basket says, it's probably "railroad stuff." The credits run to the end of the video, with no gameplay after them.
