Cart Delivery Lines: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 37

  • Published on

This stream runs about 68 minutes. It opens on a card reading "Hypermine SMP VOD" and "Cart Delivery Lines" with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. It starts away from the station, and Basket heads back to Basket Station on the Hypermine Vanilla server for the rest of it. No other player shows up on screen.

Ten lines out the back

Basket starts with a walk around. Up front there is a spot that only ever takes a passenger cart, then eight possible freight spots, then the caboose. That makes ten lines going out the back. Eight will run to the freight yard and two to the engine and caboose areas. Basket also shows the part from the last few streams that empties arriving engines and stacks the empty carts, and points out that the caboose spot still needs rearranging, because carts get there and leave instead of stopping.

A viewer asks what the freight is for. Basket's example is a farm way out somewhere: load the freight cars there, ride them to town, and empty them at a shop. Another viewer asks what happens to carts in unloaded chunks. "They stop," Basket says. They lose their momentum, which is "the main reason why we have to be with the train."

After crafting a big pile of powered rail and some regular rail for the turns, and grabbing smooth stone, Basket gets started.

A little science

The lines have to come down side by side, and Basket isn't sure whether carts on neighboring tracks push each other. So it's time for "science." Two powered rails go down next to each other on the station floor, with a cart on each. Basket pushes one. "Okay, it doesn't." That means five lines can sit right in a row, which is easier to build and takes up less room.

The first sloped lines go in. Rails keep connecting the wrong way when Basket places the ends, so some pieces have to wait until the slopes are in. The area stays dark on purpose, since it will be visible from above, and the rails keep mobs from spawning on them. The caboose line sits higher so carts can pass underneath it.

Building over the hole

The plan is a stair step: the lines come down, hit a platform, loop back and drop again. The problem is the big excavated hole underneath. Basket's answer is a water bucket to build out over it, "sky block" style. The water spreads further than planned and heads for the redstone. "Oh no, on my redstone." It turns out fine: "disaster averted, everybody." The water updates make the game lag for a while until it settles.

A viewer asks if the hoppers got covered with furnaces to cut lag. They didn't. Basket used full blocks, having heard from the chat that it made little difference.

Two staircases

With dirt to pillar up on, Basket marks out a five by five platform where the lines turn around. The first try runs into the existing build, so it moves back a block, which lets the whole thing drop two blocks lower. By the end of it, Basket describes it as "two staircases that run along each other in a very confusing manner." Powered rail goes in on the way down, and the engine and caboose lines will split off from the main two later.

Off by one

Then the count doesn't work. "There's two engines, eight freight, why do I have... what's happening?" After some back and forth, Basket sorts out which line is the engine's and finds everything shifted over by two from where the dip was planned. One line has to come up and over so there's still a way to walk through.

Basket decides to fix it properly rather than call it "good enough," and starts breaking blocks out to move everything over. The track gets relaid with regular rail at the turns and powered rail between.

That's where time runs out. Next stream starts with moving the bottom staircase down two more blocks, then building the other side of it. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
