Basket Station Mall, Part 2: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 59

  • Published on

This stream runs about 68 minutes. It opens on a card reading "Hypermine Vanilla VOD" and "Basket Station Mall" with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. Last time Basket was out of smooth stone with no quartz at all. Since then, off camera, a lot of the station floor has turned white. Kondrik is on the server too, and a wave from Kondrik shows up in the chat later on.

A floor with no torches

The new floor is quartz, in the pattern most people picked out of two designs. The idea is to light the station without torches: every few blocks there's a redstone lamp sunk into the floor with white glass on top. "One, two, three, lamp. One, two, three, lamp." Each lamp gets a lever to keep it on, and quartz pillars and slabs fill in between.

Placing those pillars needs something to build on, so Basket first lays a layer of smooth stone bricks, a floor below the floor. It also gives anyone working on the floor later something to stand on instead of falling into the machinery. The rail redstone under there keeps getting in the way, and in one spot Basket breaks a block so the track can dip down one sooner.

The quartz goes fast. Basket has already made two runs through a temporary Nether portal next to the station and runs out again partway through. "It takes quite a bit of quartz. But it'll be worth it."

The storeroom and the portal

Basket's pet wolf gets moved off the rail and into the shop. "So you stay." Then a look at the storeroom finished after the last stream. The rail now comes into this room, so carts can be sent up from below and unloaded here, into chests with signs for cobble, stone, gravel, granite and diorite.

The portal may not stay. If players kept arriving by Nether and leaving by rail, they'd take tokens away and never bring any back, "so eventually, the destinations would get messed up." Basket might hide it, make it one way, or keep it for emergencies only.

Foundation work

With the quartz gone, Basket switches to stone bricks and builds a big foundation across the other half of the mall, so the shops have something to sit on. Basket makes it day to keep things safe, and spreads torches over the new floor. Mobs can still climb in from the hillside at one edge, so a wall goes up there. "I got to fix that creeper issue over there."

Sketching the shops

The last part is planning with blocks on the foundation. The main walkway starts at three wide, then becomes five so there's a light on each side. Shops keep the seven-wide size from last time, with a bigger one in a corner. Three-wide stairs will lead up to a second level, and they line up with the walkway.

That second level might be a food court. Basket leaves a gap inside one of the walls for wiring, maybe hoppers or a dropper elevator, so food from farms under the floor could be sent up. One section gets pushed out further to leave room for seating.

It's a rough plan, and Basket says so. The stream ends with the shopping list unchanged: "I need to get a lot more quartz." The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
