Iron Farm Rail Station: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 83

  • Published on

This episode runs about 63 minutes and opens on a card reading "Episode 83" and "Small Rail Station Construction." Basket is back at the new small rail station by the iron farm on the Hypermine server, with the creative copy open in the picture-in-picture window. The plan is to hook the cart paths up to the top. Basket is the only player seen on screen.

Four paths to the top

Four kinds of carts have to climb back up after sorting: engines, cabooses, empty chest minecarts and empty passenger carts. Basket grabs powered rail, refills on stone bricks and starts counting slopes against the creative version. "One, two, three, four, and then it turns." The trouble is the creative copy is "a little bit reversed," and something doesn't fit. One path seems a block too close to the next.

One block too high

Basket sleeps with the server's bed command ("Slept until sunrise," says chat), counts the whole width (19 blocks with the ladder, which checks out) and keeps comparing the two sides. A zombie in a gold helmet wanders by in daylight, and Basket takes a few swings at it. Finally it clicks: the first slope on the ladder side lines up with the torches, and the other side doesn't. "I built one third of the top section in the wrong spot." Basket builds a platform underneath and drops that whole section down one block. Some blocks fall, which is fine. A lever under the floor powers two tracks at once, out of sight.

Built three times

A viewer asks if Basket built all of it. The answer: this station already exists once in survival elsewhere on the map, once in creative to fine-tune it, and now a second time in survival. Even so, the next set of slopes goes in the wrong spot ("Darn it"), though fixing it means a walkway can stay.

Then Basket shows how chest minecarts get sorted. By default a train goes straight. A chest cart with items drops one into a hopper, the track flips for a moment, and the cart turns off and picks its item back up further on. Freight like a load of logs ends up in a room up top. An empty chest cart is handed an item so the same trick catches it. Empty passenger carts head up to the cactus.

The empty cart drop

The empty chest minecarts get their own path: five powered rails, a turn, then a small enclosed drop three blocks deep with torches so nothing spawns. Hoppers go under it with furnaces on top "to prevent the lag." Basket is nearly out of hoppers and crafts one more.

Furnaces in the wrong place

The next loop needs six furnaces, but they don't line up. Basket had sloped the item path the other way in creative, so everything here sits two blocks off. Empty chests downstairs get broken for wood ("nine should be enough to fix my screw-up"), and the path and furnaces move over.

A viewer new to Minecraft asks what hoppers do, so Basket gives a quick lesson. A hopper pulls in items from above and pushes them the way it points. A furnace on top stops that, while a slab doesn't, as a thrown slab shows. A powered hopper locks up. And unpowered hoppers pointing down hand one item each to a chest minecart passing under them.

Where it stands

The loop gets its six furnaces, two flat powered rails and a little zigzag before Basket has to stop: "unfortunately the stream is over." The top section is lowered and the paths up are in, and the empty cart drop is built. The zigzag path and the drop's lower end still need finishing, along with the dispensers and the rest of the sorting. The end card follows the gameplay, with no clip after it.
