Small Rail Station Construction: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 85

  • Published on

This episode runs about 63 minutes and opens on a card reading "Episode 85" and "Small Rail Station Construction." Basket is back under the new small rail station by the iron farm on the Hypermine server, with the creative copy in the picture-in-picture window. The job today is the machinery that sorts incoming trains. Two other players turn up in chat partway through.

Hoppers, counted twice

Incoming carts turn one way or the other depending on the logic down here, and that logic is hopper chains. Basket counts each run off the creative copy ("one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, over"), caps the hoppers with droppers against lag, and runs low on droppers and powered rail. A trip downstairs fixes both, where a new recipe pops up for gold.

Then a whole chain turns out to point the wrong way. "The whole mirrored thing is really hard to work with." Basket pulls it out and lays it again. The next run ends by pointing into a block where an item elevator will go later, and a comparator sorter goes in beside it to pick caboose tokens out of everything coming in.

A supply run

Basket is out of food and needs cobblestone for droppers and for naming tokens. Chat shows the bed command ("Slept until sunrise," "Blew away the dark clouds"), and Basket heads out past the iron golem farm. There is a gate there now, and torches everywhere, from someone else's work. A road just ends. Basket picks up fish and cobblestone, takes the Nether portal back, builds an anvil and renames a batch of cobblestone.

Visitors and more mirrors

Back underground, torches go in so spare caboose tokens collect in storage instead of running into a dispenser, and a brick slab and repeater lines follow. Then chat lights up. "Cassildz joined the game," then "<Cassildz> Boo!" and "<Kondrik> O_O \o/". Basket waves back. Cassildz earns a few advancements, says "just dropping by to scary you guys," then "cya!" and leaves. Basket hadn't noticed Kondrik was online.

The mirror keeps biting. "Mirrors. Get you every time." Basket marks the ladder side with an actual ladder and builds by that instead of copying blindly. A detector rail goes in that briefly opens the item path so tokens can pass.

Tokens in

With the wiring done, Basket explains the chain: once the engine has its items, the caboose leaves, which dispenses more caboose tokens, calls up replacement carts and toggles the intersection. Basket loads caboose tokens into the chest up top, adds a second sorter for engine tokens, and the tokens sort the way they should. "We're maybe halfway."

To show what all this is for, Basket switches to the creative copy and walks through it: pick a destination, an engine cart with tokens and a caboose are dispensed, and each intersection, "intersection 6" for example, reads the tokens to know which way to send the train, then resets after the caboose passes.

Where it stands

Last comes the track for engines and cabooses that get put back on the rails: a curve, five powered rails and levers. The slopes go the wrong way first. A curved rail can't slope, so the climb has to start a block later. "Okay, so now everything's perfect." A viewer asks for coordinates to help with directions, but the mirrored picture-in-picture makes those confusing too, so Basket sticks with "towards the ladder."

The caboose and engine token sorters work, the item elevator spot is marked but empty, and the return track is hooked up at the top. Its lower end will be built later. The stream ends there, and the end card follows with no clip after it.
