Debugging Rail Station: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 88

  • Published on

This episode runs about 63 minutes and opens on a card reading "Episode 88" and "Debugging Rail Station." Basket is back at the small rail station by the iron farm on the Hypermine server, picking up the token line that refused to fire at the end of the last stream. No other player shows up on screen this time.

Bud power

First Basket checks the problem is real. Two carts are waiting, and a lever stands in for the lines that call up replacement carts. Nothing comes. The dropper holds 50 items, and after a pulse it still holds 50. For a test the dropper becomes a furnace, the way the design in the other station has it, and Basket decides the dropper is being "bud powered": "you're not directly powering it, it's powered but sort of indirectly." The dropper goes back in, the signal gets raised so it no longer runs straight on top, and the count drops to 49.

Next, the engine side. Both carts leave, one goes each way, and replacements roll in. "I didn't even need to fix anything, except I guess I had to fix that one thing." A crowd of carts is also sitting below where it shouldn't be ("Why are you guys all here?"), but they empty out and climb back into the stack.

Doors, a board and the rail

The station gets iron doors with buttons and pressure plates (wood buttons would be better, but the stone ones will do for now). The signs from the old sticky note turn into a project board: style the building, packed ice and water, rename cobble.

Then the rail. Basket links the station to the line with levers as temporary power, since the proper power belongs underneath, and finds enough wood for eight more levers. At the junction, a torch under a block sets things up so returning carts take the correct side and stop at the station, while carts heading the other way take the single track. Night falls and there is no bed. Basket's notes say Intersection 5 enters Basket Station, and Intersection 6, south of the iron farm station, isn't built yet. A temporary splice over the top lets a supply train run straight from Basket Station to the new station.

Renaming cobblestone

At Basket Station, Basket crafts chest minecarts and anvils and digs out all the cobblestone, running short along the way ("perhaps it's wiser to not use cobble"). Each destination slot holds 14 stacks, so 14 stacks get renamed into engine tokens. A viewer thinks one stack is misnamed; Basket checks it and "looks like it's good."

Where did the cart go?

The token cart heads out with Basket riding behind. Basket gets dropped off at the station, but nothing climbs the item elevator and the cart is nowhere to be found. With the creative copy up in the picture-in-picture, the answer turns up: the path was supposed to go three blocks, turn and slope down one, and that part was never built. Basket builds it, moves the items into a fresh chest minecart and sends it down. This time the tokens ride up the elevator and start filling the first dropper rows.

Programming destinations

The signs read Basket Station and South Port Hypermine. A Venice sign goes up and comes down again, since nothing connects there yet. Basket works out the codes: South Port is an engine token, Intersection 6 east, Intersection 5 east, Intersection 2 north, then blanks. Basket Station is an engine token, Intersection 6 east and four blanks.

Blanks can be anything, so Basket rides back to Basket Station and fills five more carts with junk: stone, gravel, netherrack, ink sacs. Each one carries caboose tokens so it sorts into the right spot. Back at the iron farm station, none of them ended up in the freight room upstairs, and the elevator is busy carrying junk up. The other rows still need their renamed tokens, and the stream runs out of time there. The end card runs to the last frame with no clip after it.
