Port Hypermine N. Station Prep: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 102

  • Published on

This episode runs about 62 minutes and opens on a card reading "Episode 102" and "N. Port Hypermine Station Prep." The first half closes out the rail styling from last time and tests the trains. The second half starts something new: the hole for a North Port Hypermine station.

The last stretch of styling

Basket picks up on the rail path past another player's castle. The levers come out so the powered rails can be powered from underneath, with a redstone torch under a block of gravel, and Basket packs extra gravel in case one breaks into flint again. One torch stays put because it may be keeping the other player's area from spawning mobs. Fences go along the sides, a missing powered rail goes in, and a light check bottoms out at 9. The intersection at the end stays as it is, since it will be rebuilt once the connecting line exists.

Leftover podzol goes back into a chest at the other player's place, where the floor has changed since Basket last visited. "That's a cool look."

Old track out, test rides in

On a test run, Basket finds that a track now connects up to a road another player has built. Back near the main station, an old leftover piece of railroad comes out, and a spot that still held a chest full of stuff gets emptied. Basket counts the spacing (five plain rails, then a powered rail), copies the pattern to the other side and puts in gravel and torches. The lowest light is 8.

Then the real test. At Basket Station, Basket asks for South Port Hypermine, and the passenger cart, the engine and the caboose all show up. At South Port, next to what looks like a new tree put up for the holidays, Basket asks to go back. "This is the one that always likes to break down." This time the engine and caboose both arrive, with the caboose token in the caboose, and the train makes it home. "It's important to test your code."

Packing for the north

Basket stocks up for a big dig: stacks of iron blocks, a beacon pulled out of an Ender Chest, wood for chests, and Fortune picks instead of Silk Touch so the stone comes out as cobble. The picker has no North Port button yet, so Basket rides to South Port and walks the rest of the way.

The spot is already marked. A sign Basket put up long ago still stands on the path: "Proposed road in front of rail station along river - Basket." The plan is a hole 13 by 22 from the surface all the way down to bedrock, with the button picker on one wall and a ladder in the corner where the design puts it.

Lava under the dig

The shaft down for the beacon base runs into an abandoned mineshaft, then lava. "It's a real pain when there's lava." Basket blocks it off with smooth stone and gravel, using a Silk Touch shovel so the gravel doesn't turn into flint, and catches fire more than once. The armor holds up. Basket can't remember exactly where the pocket sits against the planned hole, so the plan is to clear all of it.

Beacon up

With the lava gone, Basket clears a room, lays out the iron blocks, sets the beacon on top and uses an iron ingot to pick Haste. A batch of ladders goes up the side of the shaft to the surface.

Up top, with Haste on, the trees inside the fenced-off area come down, a chest goes in for storage, and Basket starts taking the dirt off in layers. Torches run short before the first layer is lit, so the full dig to bedrock waits for next time.
