Between episodes Basket smelted the iron and cooked the last of the raw beef. Now, at the little outpost dug into the ravine wall, the new iron goes to work: "I think I'm gonna make some pants." There's iron left over for an iron pickaxe too, "in case I run into redstone or I need to mine something quick like a spawner or something," plus a backup stone one. "I feel pretty equipped." The plan for the day is the abandoned mineshaft just below.
A bridge over the drop
Getting there is the hard part. A skeleton waits on the far side, out of reach behind water, and there's no bow yet to answer it. The way down runs past ladders, and Basket admits, "I'm getting flashbacks to last season right there." The drop is the real worry: "if I fall here, it's probably dead, it's pretty high up." So Basket lays cobblestone into "a little bridge over to the mineshaft," adds "some safety rails" so nothing can shoot them off, and crosses over. "I definitely hear that zombie." A creeper shows up across the gap too, but "they must be stuck over there because they're not heading my way."
Clearing the landing
Inside the mineshaft the skeleton keeps shooting. "Stupid skeleton. Can't shoot me there." Then a zombie and the skeleton turn up together, right behind Basket. "Zombie's behind me. Skeleton's behind me." Basket fights them off between the wooden supports. "Alright. So we've cleared our landing area."
Cobwebs, rails and a creeper
Further along, a creeper steps out from behind a support beam. "Oh, creeper. Hello creeper." The mineshaft is also full of cobwebs, and that means string. "Let's get some string, we can make our bow, I feel a lot safer, although we don't have a lot of arrows." The track catches Basket's eye as well: "I like railroads," and Basket wants it "so I can build a cool something later." Back at a crafting table the bow gets made, and Basket takes stock: "We got quite a bit of armor, we have a bow with a few arrows. Our sword situation is not great."
Following the zombie noise
Basket keeps hearing zombies somewhere deeper and hopes they mean a spawner: "we could eventually turn that into an XP grinder," which would help with "getting everything enchanted." The noise leads into a natural cave instead. "Okay, so it looks like that's just a cave." There's lava on the floor, so Basket covers it with cobblestone, and there's iron in the walls. Lapis turns up too, which Basket mines with the stone pickaxe rather than "waste" the iron one on it.
A dead end full of iron
One passage looks dangerous, "but not dead." Then it is a dead end after all, "but, lots of iron. Pretty excited about all that. We'll finish up our armor once we get back." Basket was "hoping for a spawner, but that's plenty of iron." A pickaxe breaks along the way, "just in time," and Basket digs into what looks like a gravel collapse: "Yeah, that's the rest of the gravel." The zombies Basket kept hearing never show up.
Next time
"So far this trip has gone pretty well," Basket says. "Found a mine shaft." There's more of the cave still to look at, so the episode ends there, "before we run onto our quest of finding out what's up there." Basket is alive in the cave off the mineshaft, with iron to bring back for the rest of the armor.
