Caving Under Base: Let's Play Minecraft Hardcore S2 Episode 9

  • Published on

This one comes with a twist: the audio from the session never recorded. So Basket plays the footage back and talks over it afterward, trying "to remember what the dialogue that I had was," and admits it "might be actually more funny and more interesting to watch than the original."

Back on the plateau

Between episodes Basket has been busy at the base. Most trees on the plateau are cut down, leaving the big ones because "they're a pain to cut down" and "look kinda nice." The chests hold wood, apples, saplings, wheat and seeds, and a large chest now has a stack of sugar cane, which "will be nice for building a bookshelf, some bookshelves later."

First up is a hole in the plateau. Basket has ladders ready "in case this is a big awesome cool hole, but it's not." It turns out small, so it gets torches and Basket climbs back out. "I wish that was a bigger hole."

Down by the waterfall

The real target is the water running off the plateau, which Basket remembers going into a cave. It's sunset and a creeper waits near the waterfall, and Basket would rather it not "mess up my cool water," so it gets shot. Inside there are two paths, some coal and iron, and an idea: keep the water and make it "more of a scenic area after I make it safe."

The tunnels fill up with skeletons. "These skeletons in the new version of Minecraft in 1.5, they are pretty mean," Basket says. Two at once raises a hope: "Whenever there's more than one of a given I always think there might be a spawner by."

A zombie spawner

There is one. Zombies keep coming down a mossy cobblestone corridor, and Basket blocks off the way behind, lights the area and fights forward. "Gotta try and work my way in there without, uh, dying. That would be shameful." Once the room is lit, it holds a spawner between two chests.

The chests give saddles, redstone ("my first redstone") and two enchanted books, one of them Respiration II by its tooltip. The books "would be nice when I get an anvil later." Basket makes a note of where the room is, maybe for stairs "coming down from the surface," and leaves it as it is for now.

The enderman

Past the spawner there's iron everywhere ("I have a obsession with getting all the iron"), and then two endermen. Basket wants ender pearls, so the plan is to make one angry from a spot it can't reach. "Yep, they're very angry." One comes, takes some hits and teleports away. It comes back around a corner, and Basket switches sides to lure it in.

Then a skeleton joins in, the enderman teleports again, "and my sword breaks. Luckily I have a backup." After that it's quiet. "That was a lot of work for nothing." No pearl.

Gold, emeralds and a full inventory

Next comes "a blinged out zombie" in gold armor. Basket kills it and picks up a helmet, which turns out later to be "protection 2." Along the way there's a ravine full of coal to come back to, and a tip about not wasting arrows: shoot into the ground and pick it right back up.

Basket is low on torches, makes a big batch, and keeps going. "Oh, gold, sweet. This is my first mined gold." Emeralds follow, then more gold and more iron. The levels pile up too, and Basket "can't wait to use some of these levels," but that needs diamonds first, and there are none yet.

By the end the inventory is full and Basket finds a room that looks familiar. The episode ends there, alive in a torch-lit cave, with a plan for next time: "try and find some diamonds and also I've got to clear up this inventory space so I need to get up top."
