Cow Tipping: Let's Play Minecraft Hardcore S2 Episode 11

  • Published on

Basket opens at the plateau base with good news from off camera. "In between this episode and the last one, I went down into the cave down there and found some obsidian and mined it up with my diamond pick," with enough for an enchanting table "and another portal for later."

Finally, an enchanting table

First comes a book, from paper and leather out of the chest. Then the table itself. "Finally, an enchanting table!" It goes down inside the cobblestone house, with room behind it for bookshelves.

That is where the plan runs short. The paper is only enough for seven books, which makes two bookshelves, and without more shelves the table tops out at level 10, "which isn't quite what I want. I'd like to use up these 30 levels." Basket enchants an iron shovel for seven levels anyway ("Might be kind of a waste though") and decides more cows are needed for leather. Time for a cow pasture.

Rounding up cows

Below the plateau Basket flattens a patch of land in sped-up footage, kills some creepers and fences it in. Then it's off with wheat to fetch the one cow Basket saw nearby, picking up eggs on the way for a chicken coop.

There turn out to be two cows, which should be easier. It isn't. "This one doesn't want to cooperate." Trying something else only moves the problem: "Although now that one doesn't care." Basket gives up on leading both together, brings them one at a time, and gets there. "Finally got these two cows in here."

A pit for chickens

Back up top, Basket digs a 5 by 5 hole for chickens and puts water in the corners, so the birds "sort of swim into the middle" instead of crowding the walls, where "they'll get too close to the walls and end up dying for suffocation." The shovel speeds up the digging ("Yeah, much faster").

A hopper goes in the middle to catch any eggs, and "if any of them die, then also it'll catch the chicken and the feathers." Then it's a matter of throwing eggs and seeing what hatches.

Too many cows

Some time later the pasture is full. Basket has been breeding cows off camera and has also built a bigger wheat farm next to the pen. Walking up, the pen is a solid wall of cows, "something like 150 or so." They cluster together and some started to "bump into each other and suffocate," so it's time to thin the herd.

Basket makes stone swords "so I don't waste all my iron" and the slaughter goes by in sped-up footage. Along the way Basket notices the calves stick close to the grown cows: "I wonder if that's new, or if that's always been in the game." The haul is "two stacks of leather and a whole lot of beef."

Bookshelves and a level 30 enchant

Back at the house the beef goes in the furnace and the leather becomes books. Basket will still need more sugar cane to use all that leather, but there's enough paper for the shelves. The bookshelves go up around the table, two high along the walls. "I forget how many I need for a full enchanting setup." One short, as it turns out, so one more goes in.

"Alright cool, 30." The diamond pickaxe goes on the table and comes off with Efficiency IV and Unbreaking III. "Good working pick."

The episode ends with Basket alive at the base, crafting and sorting the chest. The plan is a branch mine after the episode "to get some more resources," so that "next episode we'll have quite a few more resources going."
