Boomstick: Let's Play Minecraft Hardcore S2 Episode 14

Basket opens in a cave found while branch mining, right beside a spawner. The rest of the day goes to gear: a bow named Boomstick, a sword named Sharpie, and two nights in a swamp chasing slimes for sticky pistons.

A spider spawner

"From the sounds of it, it's a spider spawner." It is. It sits too far from the zombie spawner "to try and hook it into" the grinder, so for now Basket will "just need to come over here and manually kill them, or at least set up some other sort of system." The chest beside it holds a bunch of saddles and a Blast Protection II book.

Basket needs "a couple more string," so a few of the torches come out ("I'm planning on making a really cool bow"). Then Basket collects the diamond ore mined earlier with Silk Touch.

Books on a bow

Back at the grinder, "apparently somehow the skeleton got in the system." Since last episode Basket has killed "quite a few zombies," enchanted a pile of books and built more chests to sort the zombie drops. The Fortune III pick turns the stored diamond ore into "53 out of 27, not too bad."

Then the bow. The books go on at the anvil and the bow gets a name, Boomstick, because "if you name an item it's easier to repair it down the line." The tooltip reads Power IV, Infinity I, Unbreaking III. A Power II book won't push it to Power V, and Basket can't work out why.

A diamond sword gets the same treatment, with a walkthrough for anyone new to the anvil: "this requires five levels to enchant that." A Sharpness III book won't combine either, so "maybe it has to be a higher level." By the time Basket heads out there is a sword named Sharpie (Sharpness V, Knockback II by tooltip), one named Looter (Sharpness IV, Looting III), and a shovel Basket calls "a spoon."

Killing time underground

The temple Basket meant to check? "Turns out I've already been there." A nearby cave fills the time until dark instead. The new pick cuts through stone, unlike "my first couple of videos when I was mining up all the iron in the mine shaft." It's mostly dead ends. The real goal is the swamp at night, because "I have some ideas for the library, but it requires sticky pistons."

A swamp with no slimes

Boomstick needs two hits on its first target. After that the swamp turns up creepers, a spider Basket "didn't see coming," and several endermen, but almost no slimes. "That ruins all my plans." Two slime balls won't cover it; Basket wants "maybe even like a stack."

So Basket eats, builds "a little protective thing" of cobblestone and tries the endermen instead. One makes "an angry noise," but it doesn't come in. Slimes finally show up near dawn. "Maybe they only spawn towards the end of night?" Not enough of them, so Basket waits for the next night.

Round two

A flatter area works much better. "I almost have a full stack, how come these guys weren't around last night?" The Looting sword goes on the small slimes. Sharpie's knockback is "nice," but "you can't just charge 'em." Some slimes hop into the water: "It's weird that they can't swim. They just drowned."

Skeletons in the vines can't see Basket, but Boomstick can still shoot through, and Infinity means "I don't have to worry about arrows running out." Basket still wants Power V for one-shot kills, and Flame over Punch. By morning: "I got two stacks and then some."

Sticky pistons

Back at base, Basket breaks down a Block of Redstone, adds iron and planks, runs short once ("I need more wood, darn it"), and crafts sticky pistons, 32 for now. The episode ends with Basket alive at base, sticky pistons in hand. Next up is the mine shaft "underneath my base somewhere," and after that the library, with redstone and sticky pistons for "a book, enchanted book storage system."
