Behind The Wall: Let's Play Minecraft Hardcore S2 Episode 17

  • Published on

Basket starts in the library, right in front of the bookshelf wall from last episode. One button press lifts the shelves out of the way, and another closes them back up. Today's job is the space behind it: "mainly chests and potentially actually the Nether portal might be back there too."

Not a castle

While clearing out the back room, Basket thinks out loud about the world. If Basket dies, or makes it all the way and kills the dragon, "all of this stuff is sort of done." So the plan is to keep things nice but skip the giant projects: "I'm not gonna make a big castle." The focus is "getting the job done, killing the dragon in the end," and there are plenty of steps left: the Nether, potions, blaze rods, a stronghold and enough Eyes of Ender.

Eighteen chests

The space gets a three-by-three block of chests on each side, with room in front for signs. Chests need open space above them, so Basket tries stairs on top, which look solid from one side. The lighting comes out "kind of weird," so some of those turn into solid blocks. Breaking into the wall also turns up redstone, and one signal "was too long, it wouldn't make it all the way up," which a repeater fixes.

Chests can't sit side by side, so Basket mixes in trapped chests with no redstone attached. That means 12 trapped and the rest regular. Basket runs out of wood, gets more from the tree up top and comes back with the chests made, then crafts the 12 "latches" for the trapped ones.

With the chests in, Basket closes the wall and opens it again. "Everything still works. Good." The latches face the wrong way, so that wall comes out and they go back in the right way. Item frames or signs could mark which enchants go where. Two chests short at the end, Basket makes two more.

The portal spot

Through the middle is where the Nether portal will go. It is "kind of noisy," so it shouldn't sit too close to the work area, and its two-block width "doesn't really work well with my symmetrical design," so part of it may get hidden. The obsidian is at "the other base," and lighting the portal can wait for next episode. Glowstone will replace some of the torches once Basket has it.

A new ceiling

Next is the zombie spawner room. The spawner is turned off with torches, "if you're wondering why there's no zombies everywhere," and a block there is for the knockback when zombies or thorns hit Basket. A planned tunnel up to the ladder can wait, since Basket wants to get into the Nether.

Off camera, Basket has also put in a sloped ceiling of stone brick stairs. "It's not quite perfect," Basket says, and the middle may go up a little higher.

Armor for the Nether

The spawner ran while Basket built, and the enchanting kept going. One pair of boots, "Protective Boots of Falling," has Protection IV, Feather Falling IV and Unbreaking III. Another pair named "Nether" has Unbreaking III and Fire Protection IV, and leggings named "Pants" have Protection IV and Unbreaking III. Basket's current gear is "running kind of low," and an enchanted diamond helmet will finish the new set.

The zombies also drop swords and shovels, and Basket has started combining the spare iron swords into better ones.

Next stop

The episode ends with Basket alive in the library, the wall open on the new chests. The plan for next time: get the obsidian ready, go into the Nether, and "hopefully we can find a stronghold not too far away," plus glowstone and quartz.
