Orange Wool Solo, Part 3: Monumenta Episode 44

  • Published on

This is a new recording session of the slow solo run through the orange wool dungeon. Basket has repaired some gear since last time and has a new shield with a guild banner on it. The plan hasn't changed: go slowly, trigger one spawner at a time, and back off before anything piles up.

A new shield

The shield is a Hide Shield with Unbreaking III and a bit of knockback resistance in either hand. The banner pattern on it is a stack of pinks, blues, browns and greens.

Out of range

Most of the episode is spawner management. Basket finds a zombie spawner, a creeper spawner by a chest, and a lot more spawners on the level below. Falling down there would be bad, so the bottom part gets cleared first. The trick is to stay out of range of a spawner while killing whatever it already sent, so you aren't feeding it more. "We want to make sure we're out of range of it."

The jungle mobs that come at Basket end up burning, which helps.

Ghasts, creepers and sparkles

The harder corner has a ghast spawner and, Basket guesses, stacked creeper spawners. Ghasts don't worry Basket much. The creepers do. The plan is to set off the spawner and fall back, and fall back fast if a bunch of creepers show up. Basket switches to a Pyromancer's Bow for the archers and notes that fire doesn't do much when they stand in water.

One problem is self-made. Basket turned on the patron sparkles because they looked cool, and now they're in the way. Then Basket builds some stairs to make the climb back up easier.

Spiders and a junky wand

Poison spiders come next, from spawners up top and down a ladder. Basket isn't too worried about them, takes a regeneration potion, grabs a pile of arrows, and picks the area clean. The chest at the end holds what Basket calls "a little junky wand," an Apprentice's Wand with Sharpness II, Knockback I and Fire Aspect I. It goes in the bag anyway.

"Survived it, no deaths." The boots are almost broken, so Basket swaps in a different pair.

The hallway left over

One room in this section is still open, a hallway Basket remembers going back to for cleanup after the group run. Some of its spawners may already have gone off, which makes it less predictable. Basket waits out of range and lets the mobs come. Two spawners sit on a platform, and some of the mobs end up shooting each other and catching creepers in the process.

With one more spawner found in the back and taken care of, the room is clear and the chest gets looted. Basket dumps the vines and gunpowder and heads out to drop off the loot and repair those boots. Next up is one of the two side paths, if Basket feels confident enough.
