Last time they promised to see what was in the building, and this time they do. The death counter reads 8 for Scoti and 3 for Basket at the start and still reads 8 and 3 at the end, so nobody dies. It gets close, though, and they spend most of the episode in a brand new desert.
The Hermit
The building has some coal and a gold apple, and there's a villager somewhere nearby. It turns out to be a Hermit with a colored name, tucked into a little hole. A book in the chest, signed by the Hermit, explains why: it was hiding from zombies that "just would not go away," and the two of them are its saviors. As thanks it offers to craft leather armor if they bring a bit more leather than the piece would take. The trade window shows a Hardened Leather Helmet with Protection I.
"Leather cap would be nice." They get one. A marker outside points to the Yellow Crystal and the Breeding Grounds, and something about it looks trapped, so they leave it alone for now.
Recommended order
They decide to check the intersection first to see which area comes next. There's a teleporter up there that would save them time, plus more beds. A sign lists a recommended order, starting with Zepharin Sands and with the Breeding Grounds further down. The area sign for Zepharin Sands asks for the Orange and Magenta Crystal and lists 12 emeralds.
They set their spawns close by, dump some junk in the ender chest, grab the checkpoint, and go in.
Cursed sand
They're so spooked by traps that they test every patch of sand and gravel before stepping on it. The first book is Zepharin lore. Long ago the Zepharin Pharaoh angered the gods of the desert, and as punishment the gods sent a swarm of scarabs that ate the flesh off the Zepharins' bones and cursed their remains with eternal life. Their restless skeletons still wander the desert. "We should help them out."
The first real trap is a sneaky one. Digging the sand updated some pressure plates and switched on spawners off to the side. Further in, a villager is surrounded by zombies, so they shoot the ones they can reach safely and go save it. This one is a trader. It wants jungle wood for magical wooden swords with Sharpness II, and one of them has a whole stack. It also trades rotten flesh for steak. Its book is a sales pitch with a tip at the end: visit the nomad camps up the waterfalls, they're hiding shiny gems. "I just want to look, I swear."
A pillar full of spawners
"Oh man, this level is awesome!" A headshot gets a "360 no scope." Then a big cobble pillar turns out to be full of spawners. They hear silverfish under the sand, a zombie in heavy armor shows up from somewhere up the hill, and a skeleton with a fiery bow keeps shooting from a spot they can't find. One of them ends up on fire and down to one heart. The other gets down to three and a half and can't complain.
Then someone throws an ender pearl straight into a cactus and lands at half a heart. "Way to waste the ender pearl." There are two more in a chest back there. An enderman nearly gets looked at too, which would have been worse.
Steak for next time
They agree it's not an episode yet, since "somebody's gotta die still," but no one does. There's a chest on a roof with random stuff, and a Longbow with Power I turns up. The trader wants 16 rotten flesh for the steak, so they pool it in the chest by the trader and save the trade for next time. Nothing new goes on the monument this episode.
