Into the Ravine: MHC Anything Goes Episode 3

  • Published on

Day three of Michael Deering's December 2013 challenge starts back in the mossy room by the spider spawner, and the torch argument from day one is still going. "Torches on the right. Wait, that means nothing. Dang it." Somebody has a plan for the next accident: "When he dies, we're gonna put the torches right here. Remember, it has to look like an accident." Then a quick count of the loot: "We have three music discs. Well, now we just need two diamonds."

A skeleton hunt goes sideways

While Basket mines through the caves under the base, the voice chat follows a skeleton hunt somewhere else. "There's a skellie spawner, like, right here." One player digs down, another follows, and it goes the way these things go. "You just buried yourself." "I didn't dig straight down." Sand comes down from the ceiling, a creeper turns up, and the verdict is "This is like the Three Stooges." Nobody dies.

Wood, seeds and a witch that wasn't

Basket climbs the ladder to the surface. Asked what they are up to, the answer is "I am gathering a little wood right now. I was gonna try and find some food, but I don't have anything yet. Got some seeds." Basket chops acacia, passes sheep and pigs, follows a river, and wanders out through a desert into the red mesa. Over the voice chat, someone spots "this witchy thing" in the distance. It's lostinthefort. By the time Basket is back at the walled lot, the sun is going down.

Chestplates all around

At dusk Basket meets Scoti_Garbidis out by the desert, where someone wants to open up a hole full of skeleton noises. A creeper changes the plan: "Alright, this is a terrible idea. Let's get out of here. Run." Back down the ladder, the iron goes in the furnace. "I've got enough for us all to have a chest plate." Basket's armor bar fills in, and the teammates crowding the chest are in iron too. Boots are another matter: "We've got 15 iron." "We need 16. Darn it. I'll go without boots." The music discs get a second look. "There's only 13. They're all 13." "Maybe we'll make a record store."

Down the waterfall

The night's plan: "Let's go in the ravine." "What ravine?" "The ravine we found on day one." Torches get split up ("Give me a quarter stack, would you?"), and the team drops down a waterfall into the caves. Someone spots lapis ("That is completely worthless." "No it's not, dude. We need it for our secret project."). Morale slips again. "We're gonna lose this challenge. We're not working like a team at all." The torch rule finally gets settled by a vote: "Team rule, put 'em on the left." Then Basket finds a lava fall with a creeper beside it, and a moment later, "That creeper just pushed the other creeper into the lava."

One heart left

Deeper in, someone calls out "a zombie in chain" with "a steel shovel." Then a witch steps out of a side passage. Basket draws a bow on it, and potions come flying. "Nope, two hits didn't kill her. So maybe she has regen on." Basket's hearts turn green with poison and drain down to one. Someone sums it up: "The poison brought me down to nothing." Basket is alive, on one heart, with steak in hand, when the call comes: "Should we call this an episode?" The end card follows, with nothing after it.
